I don't see why not, but are you sure its worth the shipping costs?

I believe it all depends on the system your TV uses - PAL or something else. Need to check with manufacturer. DVD should be ok
Weigh up the extra it will cost you against buying here

Import TV

The shipping cost is NIL because it is included with all my other effects in one container.
I just thought that somebody else must have been in my position and would know if a Uk TV worked in Thailand

PET, just make sure that your TV has either auto or manual system select in the menu, and then you will be OK. Every TV I’ve bought in the last ten years anywhere has had this, so I assume that is the case in the UK as well.

You seem to be missing something. Except for UBC, cable and TV programmes are transmitted in the VHF waveband. Nowhere in Europe do they use VHF and haven't done for many years. Therefore, TV's from Europe will not have a VHF tuner, only UHF which is useless here.

STEVE is correct as usual. If it is an old TV it may have an upper limit on frequency that may stop you getting all the channels. Bring the manual or the model number (to reference the manual on the Internet) an use auto tune preferably early evening when all the channels are broadcasting.

You mention a DVD receiver but I am unaware of such a device. If you mean a DVD player then you may have a problem in certain circumstances. A British DVD player will only decode DVDs that have a local region stamp or no stamp at all. All the copy DVDs here have no stamp. If you buy a legitimate DVD from a large store it will have a SE Asia region stamp on it and will not play properly in a British machine. However all is not lost. There are many stores in Bangkok that will change the chip if the player is worth it. A brand new top name brand DVD player is only about 3,000 BHT here.

There is a problem there though if you bring DVDs with you. They will not play on a Thai DVD player without conversion. The cheapest and least hassle is to bring yours and buy another here when needed. Most amps will cater for two or more devices and if not you can get a switch in Hua Hin for 150 BHT.

HHTel, they sell the same models of TV’s all over the world now and you get the VHF tuner thrown in even though it doesn’t get used in Europe.
I just had a look at the specification of the latest Sony TV’s sold in the UK and they all have a VHF tuner.

Guess,

I think you've been in Thailand too long. :D

Its quite common these days to have a DVD writer on which you can record TV programmes in exactly the same way as you used to record on to a video recorder.

UK tv and DVD Player

Post by PET »

I am ok with the DVD player ( I think ) because I bought some dvd's in Thailand earlier this year and they play OK in UK

Just a little bit worried about the TV though it is a Phillips S md1.2E AA and model 28PW6332/05 , in case any of your smart guys know this. It also has UHF on the label.
Thanks for all your kind help

My last cheapo DVD was for playing only. The new sooper-dooper version is an all singing-all dancing affair, even plays VCD's! :D

It was still cheap. Probably because all the current stuff will be out of date here soon.

Mine are always of the el-cheapo variety - they're the only type that you can be fairly confident that they'll play VCDs - an essential if you have a Thai wife.

caller,

I'm not joking here - if you go in to the shop and say that you need your dvd player to play vcds, you'll be shown the most expensive models and the cheapest models. Its always the middle of the road models that won't play vcds.
