Nightlife update - warning - great peril awaits !

Post by gunner46 »

Seems to me the old bar/nightlife threads are waaaay old and somewhat off-topic in some instances.

Now, purely in the interest of science and sharing with your fellow man (or woman for that matter, or somewhere in-between  ) would someone kindly like to do a round robin of as many night spots as possible and give us an up to the minute-ish view on Hua Hin?

Now, this would obviously involve copious amounts of alcohol, enjoying the company of many other like-minded expats, locals and not forgetting the ladies, oh and probably a spot of dancing with said ladies at some point too (assuming there are clubs in HH?)

If anyone would care to take on this perilous mission then they do so with my admiration and great appreciation. It is a perilous mission however, and one that will likely land you in financial or matrimonial trouble one way of the other ! :?

I expect there'll be an orderly queue forming then?

Hilton

Post by Chas »

Not going for the grand tour of all the bars in Hua Hin. . but I can give you an up-to-date report on the Hilton. I was there last night. It hasn't changed much over the years I have known it. A tad expensive, especially on weekends when the cover charge is a whopping 300 baht. No cover charge last night ( Monday) and the two for one deal in effect before 10. One of the few ( the only??) actual dance floors in Hua Hin.

Same tired old band though, capable of taking over from the DJ and emptying the floor within seconds. (They should be able to afford a better band!) They played maybe two or three decent songs in the three sets I heard. ( They are still hawking that old "Maya hee maya hoo" crap that died at least two years ago.)

Mix of Thai and farang patrons and (some nights) far too many bar girls smoking up a storm. (They are on a night off I think as they don't seem to be working and there isn't any deal with the bar for drinks etc. . .but I don't know this scene at all and could be wrong.) Big screens show some kind of sports activity but for added entertainment you always get a drunk farang or two dancing crazy.

The smoke is what drives me out. Hate it. I would like at least a smoke free dance floor . .wishful thinking of course. . never happen here. (Its "cool" to multi-task. .dance with a bottle in one hand and a smoke in the other. .and from time to time your cell phone needs to be attended to.)

Service is a mixed bag. We have had terrible service in the past ( like, if my drink doesn't arrive within the next 30 minutes I am outta here) but last night was OK.

Haven't been in there for years (literally) Chas. You've just reminded me exactly why I don't go there. :P

Ahhh Chas!!!

You had been reminding me of the good old days again when my fellow friends and me went to DA Brewing Company during them wild Stamford years. Yeah I can remember the multitasking with them Ciggies in the left hand and Green Beerbottles of "Heine" in da left hand. And the Pacing around from one table to another to gauge the mood of fellow Stamford Studs. If you can still remember my (relatively) small circle of Friends which included them two cute'n beautiful "Hijas de Kyoto!" where always sitting @ the Benches up the raised Area shortly after the Entrance of this Establishment. I could also remember that we got the Three litre selftap Tower Beer filled with the Smiling Monkey kind of that self Brewed stuff and me always requesting to the Band the Inner Circle song "Games People Play. Yeah we had a great Time there @ The Brewing Comp. especially after Stamford Parties where it's a Phenomena to witness "The Brewing" filling up with Students from DA Campus way inside Palm Hills. When closing Time arrives to Share the 4 Three Litre Towers you can see magic happening in how Fast your Money you got from the ATM earlier that night disappears into to Cash Mashine of DA Hilton's
Yeah that was also a few Millenias ago I've been there. Good that little has changed so far. By the way Chas The Band that ususally Plays @ "DA Brewing Comp." are most Fillipino! One Thing the Management should replace from Time to Time.

Understudy! You bring back old times with your references! (For those who may not know, U.S. and I go way back.) And we did have some really fun nights there, didn't we.

For those that hate it and never go there, I can certainly understand why.(Some of the same reasons I don't like it myself.)

However, I DO go there from time to time because I like to dance and 1. It has a dance floor.
2. It has a dance floor and
3. It has a dance floor. If I could find another place in HH with a live band and a dance floor, I would be out of there in a jiffy.

It also tends to attract many of my friends who like to dance (Thai and farang) and so there you are.

I understand that the band is Thai and not Filipino

Try Luknam

Mainly Thai

Good band and will play requests

Plenty of dance space

AND cheaper

So.. we're agreed about the Thai/Filipino tribute band being crap, Hilton being expensive and smokey and either being full or not full of girls and/or farang/thai patrons ! Right, glad we got the facts straight on this issue

Luknam noted as another worthy contender sneaking in to possibly jostle the Hilton from that "Top Nightclub in HH" position. Perhaps not the best, but previously peerless it's in a class of one !

The only time i get to the Hilton now a days is when i have had a few too many beers, tried to be good once and go semi sober but didnt last long. i love to dance alot but the only way of getting me there now is a suggestion at about 12.oo by a group of mates when the beer is in and the brains are out.

Poor gunner! He asks for a rundown of nightlife & gets everyones view of the Hilton   (apart from Richard - where is Luknam, Richard?)

Anyone have any other places they'd like to comment on for gunner? Think we've done the Hilton to death, now...

Tried out Luknam a few weeks ago, good live music but very "Thai style" so expect to lose your hearing for a few days afterwards and forget any kind of conversation in there!

Luknam

Post by Chas »

I would also like to try Luknam, though the thought of only Thai music is a bit off-putting.( As Dawn asked, exactly where is it?) As for the noise level, I never go out without earplugs anyway.

Gunner, do you really think anyone is going to hit all the bars and do a real survey? I agree the results would be interesting but probably very personal and biased unless you did something like a checklist like the hotels use with a secret visitor ticking things off.

For me, one of the biggest variables is the company I am with. With a group of friends, just about any place will do. As a single or a couple, you are more at the mercy of the elements and what may be a fun bar one night might be a depressing bar the next.
