Re: Kings Cup mountain bike classic
Well I know this is quite an old thread, but since I've just bought a new bicycle (thanks Sarge....lol) and am starting to cycle after not having been on a bicycle for more than 30 years, what better way than to start of with a bang......lol. I'll be awaiting this event eagerly, even if I make a total fool of myself....lol. I see the Queen's Cup Tour is specifically designed to deter folk like me.............over 100kms.............lol.
Jokes aside.............being in the physical shape I am, I do need to get into this gradually I suppose, but I'm sure I'll be ready for the King's Cup. As a matter of interest............do any other local expats take part in this event?

Takiap,
Check out the group Hua Hin Bicyclists (On Facebook) We have rides most days of the week, varying difficulties, speeds, trail-surfaces, etc. Some of the faster road-rides can be up to 200k in a day, some of the slow and easy rides can be 35k in 2 1/2 hours. Good group of guys, good knowledge of local cycling routes and trails, and the occasional evening get-together for drinks/food.

Re: Kings Cup mountain bike classic
I took part a few years ago. Its pretty grueling. Some of the drop offs were leg breaking.
TAKE PLENTY OF WATER...!!!

bcrglobal........thanks, I'll definitely check it out. Do you have a link maybe? I'm still new to this though so I can't see myself managing 200kms in a day. Then again, I have surprised myself in the past.
Randy, is the King's Cup strictly off-road? Also, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "drop-offs"?
If I do enter, it will really just be for the fun of it, so if I don't make it in time, no problem. You mention taking plenty of water??????????????????.......what's wrong with Chang? I'm still trying to work out the water bottle thing, because surely any water you carry will get as warm as hell, and I haven't yet seen any insulated ones.
I may even skip the King's Cup and try the Queens cup instead. A longer distance, but I assume it's all road riding?
Any advice welcome.

It's all off road (well it used to be). It's the Queens cup that is on road.Takiap wrote:Randy, is the King's Cup strictly off-road? Also, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "drop-offs"?
Drop offs are literally big downhill drops! You need nerves of steel to take them.
That said don't let that put you off entering. Just get off and walk down them.
I nearly fainted with lack of water. There are water stops but they don't start until the 10k mark (10k of off road riding ain't easy) So as I said take a lot of water to see you through the first part. I took about 3 liters and found out that it wasn't nearly enough.
I don't want to put you off but you should know there was (I seem to remember) well over a hundred people sent to hospital with dehydration and broken bits.
That said you do get a shiny medal for finishing...
