Thai passports for luk kreungs

Though I'd post my findings as I went to Bangkok to get a Thai passport for our son yesterday.

The easiest way to go from Hua Hin is to drive to Pin Klao and the Ministry of Culture building (easy to find if I could do it!).

The passport section is on the ground floor and while it may look like a monkeyshitfight as most government offices do this place is remarkably efficient.

Your spouse will need to fill in a registration form, then the little dude gets his height measured. A short wait before you get called in to a little booth for more documentation, photos taken there and then on a digital camera, and fingerprints. Then its off to the billing section, pay a thousand baht and they'll put it in the post to you next week for an additional 35 baht.

All done, in and out in under 40 minutes. This is the most efficient process I've ever seen in Thailand, I wish the British embassy and Thai Immigration could take note!

I agree that they are most efficient, but I think we went to a different place in Bangkok, as it was nowhere near Pin Klao, it was somewhere near Don Muang and i think was called the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It seemed to be a pretty new building and was pretty impressive overall. Maybe they have more than one place that issues passports in Bangkok?

I reckon they are efficient because so few Thais actually hold passports for travel. I doubt they are rushed off their feet. I can imagine there are more farangs dealing with Thai immigration than there are Thais applying for Thai passports!

I know the place you mention. Went there for the official seal of approval on Embassy paperwork before we got married. I thought they did Thai passports there as well.
A new place, with ATMs, small shops and even a restaurant downstairs to while away the wait, although mine wasn't long either.
However, it's right across "the other side of town", as you've said.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chang Wattana Road - up by Don Muang. Close to Mo Chit skytrain. About 15 mins in a taxi from there.

Yes this is where I plan to go. I believe the area is called Laksi.

Laksi area it is. If you're not driving, just get the skytrain to the end of the line and jump in a taxi. Easy.

We've always used Pin Klau. However, each time we've been it's been absolutely mobbed. A good idea is to take a queue ticket and guage how fast the numbers are going down. Then step over the sleeping Thais and go shopping/eating in Central which is the same building. Once you get seen, it is very quick.

Done both, Ministry of foreign Affairs, Chang Wattana and Central Pinklao.
Both crowded, both loaded with Thai customers. Alot of folks going for passports.
