car insurance
Once you go Asian you will never go Caucasian !!
Insurance is always for twelve months. You may need to take a look at the type of insurance and your circumstances as well. I'll explain:
A law was passed about two years ago that the insurance renewal date had to coincide with the tax renewal date.
Now this posed a bit of a problem as I bought secondhand, and the tax renewal was in the middle of the year, but insurance at the end of the year. This is what happened.
My first party insurance still runs twelve months a year, year-end to year-end. However...
When the tax is due, I need a seperate 3rd party insurance policy (this is mandatory, and outside of your first party if you have it - Thais call it Por-Ror-Bor) that co-incides with this date. This is the type of insurance that has to match the same date as your tax. So my third party coverage at the time 'expired' long before it was due.
I suspect this is what may have happened.

Hi Bozz
Strange that the insurance is less than 12 months. Have you checked the policy that it ran for a full 12 months? Very much doubt that it would be pro-rated.
On another train of thought, since you bought new. Did you get your insurance policy before you got off your 'red plates'? If so, the insurance may well have run the 12 months but you got your official plates some time afterwards, so your official date of registration has actually taken place some time further down the road.
Just make sure with your new policy that the insurance (well, at least the Por-Ror-Bor) coincides with the tax expiration date. It's another something the boys-in-brown can get you for.
