watering holes

Post by charlesh »

where are the good and quiet watering holes in the HH and Pranburi areas where one can enjoy a convivial ale or 2 not pestered by the frenetic flyby night tourists and hanger ons?? I do note the numerous places advertised in HHAD seem to be popular with a lot of transients.

Interesting topic C. Do you want to drink where there are other falangs, or do you prefer a non- falang drinking establishment?

Parahandy and I have managed to convert many a shop into a kind of pub. We rarely drink in Hua Hin, because we don't live there, but you'll find that most shops have some kind of seating outside. Just turn up and ask if you can drink your purchased bottle of beer there. They'll fumble around for a glass the first time, the second time they'll have a clean glass ready, and the third time the beer will be on the table before you sit down. :)

We occasionally get joined by pals at our strange watering holes, which is nice...

It all depends on whether you want farang company or not. Most ex-pats will obviously congregate in the bars run by ex-pats, which are usually in the centre of Hua Hin. I really don't know of any bars where ex-pats meet outside the touristy bits. But I'm sure there must be someone who reads this who does...

Glad you mentioned the corner shops Vital Spark. I thought about it but like you wasn't quite sure what C was after!
As far as HH goes you don't have to wander far to find the little shops where farangs are welcome, but without knowing exactly what C wants, or how familiar he is with HH, its difficult to advise.
I certainly spent time at my local shop on Naebkerhardt, opposite the school, where a lot of the Indian community also went. There was also a rough but very welcoming shack just over the railway line on Chomsin - near the reservoir - and some others further out on Chomsin in the Bamboo Grove area, as well as a lovely little hut between the Grand and Sao Paolo.
Some of these places may be disappearing but I hope not

Tons' in Takiap takes a lot of beating as far as a chilled out local bar goes IMO .
