Thai Driving

Post by lindosfan1 »

Been in Hua Hin now 3 months and just drove down to Ranong, observations on Thai driving
1.Lorry drivers two different instructors one who teaches the good drivers and one who teaches that the white line should be in the middle of the wheels.
2.Coach drivers only use the outside lane
3. Road works no warning even when on blind bend
4. Motorbike passenger is not waving at their friend they are turning right or left.
4. Overloaded pick ups doing 10kph always drive on the right or the middle of the road.
5 There is no lower age limit for driving in Thailand saw a kid about 10 years old driving a m/bike and side car with about 8 kids as passengers.
Just some interesting observations anybody got any more.

The roads here drive me nuts on many occasions so my list would be too long to post!

There is an amusing "road awareness guide" here though:

When i lived in france i noticed the locals took their half of the road in the middle.
One thing that gets me is why they drive dow the middle of the lane stripe on major highways.
Oh, another thing is why does the guy in the pickup doing 50kph with a load of pineapples or mattresses 10 feet high stay in the passing lane?

One theory I've got about that is that the nearside lane carries most of the heavy traffic and so gets potholed and uneven. I reckon the overtaking lane road hoggers are just trying to get a smoother ride.

Exactly correct Lomu, and I believe that you do not drive yourself? The down side of it is that it just encourages the F1 drivers to weave back and forth across however many lanes there happens to be.
