SG Airways

I was wondering if anyone has flown on the new air service between Bangkok and Hua Hin. I believe they are called SG Airways. The one way fare is al iitle pricey however I understand that you can go standby for alot less. Has anyone here gone standby and if so would you recomend it or would i be wasting my time. What is the cost of the standby fair?

Just wondering if there is any update on this post. Thinking of flying SGA too in Dec 05 from Bangkok. Anyone with experience on this flight? Are their flight schedule punctual? Thanks alot!

I haven't used this service but I have heard about the standby fare also. I think for most of the people living here they would probably not use this service because it would not save a significant amount of time as compared to a taxi, because of the time that would have to be allowed for check in etc. Also if it was to connect with an international flight out of Thailand then it is possible that the baggage limit may be a problem, as well as getting from the domestic to the international terminal in Bangkok, and the likelihood that the times do not marry up. Finally most people who are travelling up to Bangkok from here are either planning a visit to the centre of the city or are travelling on somewhere else like Pattaya, so there would be no time saving.

The latest info I can find is that flights leave BKK at 9 am, 11.30 am, 3 pm and 6.30 pm, and the departures from Hua Hin are 9.30 am, 4 pm, 4.30 pm and 8 pm. Regular fares are 3300 baht one way, 5600 baht return (children under 12 1750 and 2950 baht) plus a 50 baht service charge. Booking hotline on 66 (0)32 531073 between 9 am and 6 pm. You would not normally pay more than 1500 to 2000 baht for a taxi either way which would drop you wherever you are staying, whereas you would also have to organise transport when you arrive in Hua Hin - the airport is a little way from town.It is possible that the hotels will arrange a free pickup from Hua Hin airport. Many of them can arrange a pick up from Bangkok too for a price. Hope that helps.

Used SG recently and it cost me Thb3100 one way. For someone travelling alone it's about 10 quid more than a taxi and well worth thinking about. There are 4 flights a day and they can get busy. The last time I enquired (a saturday morning) they were full.
A small operation that might seem a bit amateurish at first glance but I would not hesitate to use them again. Single engine aircraft but the Cessna Caravan has a very good safety record.
There is NO standby fare - trust me, I'm an airline pilot (we'd know!!)

Hi Spud,
who do you work for. I am also in this flying lark and will be in HH mid Nov if you fancy a few beers. The caravan is a good machine but i think that getting a cab is just as easy. Now HH to pattaya, that would be interesting. I believe there is a restriction on single engined turbine over water between airfields but it is not that far to Utapao. Rgds.
