Oh it's never going to happen to me!!!

How often have you heard that???

Went out for a bite and a few sherbets last night. Normally I get a reliable taxi driver to take me home as they make sure I'm in and locked up when the wifes away (which she is) Had to get a different taxi and although he saw me through the gates did not wait

Sat down to take my shoes off and got hit from behind. Luckily I had bent down and he missed my head but rendered my left shoulder useless. I automatically put my arms over my head for protection and got hit 4 more times one dislocating my thumb and the others leaving cuts in my left arm. Fortunately our resident soi friendly dog stated barking. He/she or them disappeared.

I live in a respectable middle class soi close to 51, and assume I'm OK because everybody knows me

My wife and my next door landlady have always said how vulnerable I am when alone

Now I know!!

That's bad news. Sorry to hear it. Was there any sign of an attempted break-in? Did you disturb someone?

Not sure

But we've had to change the locks twice in the last 6 months

To be honest, the biggest impact to me at the moment is SHOCK

OK I been burgled in the UK twice but never had a violent assault before

The Soi is in shock but quick to point out I'm a farang and therefore have money ( Thai logic 'it's your fault')

Hope many will learn from this

Jeez, hope you're ok, was it inside the house? Were they waiting for you or did it happen on the street outside? Could help to ascertain whether it was premeditated or a chance attack.

Have you made a police report? Not that it'll make a blind bit of difference.

Very sorry to hear that Richard. I hope you can take a long rest, put your feet up and try not to dwell on it too much, although I know that will be difficult.

richard,
That must have been a very nasty shock, and I hope it hasn't knocked any of that Yorkshire stuffing out of you. I hope you and the dog disturbed the person before they took anything or did anything else in your soi and your house. I hope also that your wounds heal quickly, both physical and mental. Reporting it to the police, although unlikely to yield anything now, may at least give them a heads up that this sort of thing is happening, and possibly more often than they realise.

Sorry to hear that, Richard. What an awful thing to happen.

Thanks guys

Happened outside my door and guess It was a premeditated attack

Nothing lost only my pride

But true Yorkshire grit will see me through

The wife has consistant told me I'm marked as a target but who believes that in the LOS?

What a cowardly attack .Hope you mend fast .I suggest a couple of security floodlights and/or taking a dog off of Dawns hands that makes a lot of noise around strangers. Hopefully the incident is a one off .

Richard, I'm sorry to hear both of the attack, and that it could happen in Hua Hin. Even more so about the apparent justification of it by locals simply because you are 'farang'. Best wishes in getting over both the shock and any injuries.

You suggest it may be pre-meditated because of the circumstances, but do you have any other reason for suspecting this? It may help the police, even though we all know the Boys in Brown aren't the most pro-active in dealing with farang problems. Random assaults are pretty rare, and the tourist police would take that sort of thing pretty seriously, I would think - bad for 'face' in LOS.
