Does anyone know where I can get a VCR (new or used) in Hua Hin or Cha-Am?
This is such an inexpensive TV recording technology. I am surprised that I can't find it at any of the electronics stores in town. Sure they have DVRs and DVD recorders but they are expensive overkill for the few TV shows that I want to record.
Thanks

The big market near the golf driving range that opens on Tuesdays is where my daughter buys such things. However, you're talking old technology - I'm not so sure they will still sell them.
DVD recorders are pretty cheap these days, and the consumables are certainly cheaper, and easier to handle. You'll find them cheap in the same place.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I did check Macro, HomePro, Big Kiang, and some smaller electronics stores, but I didn't think to look at Tesco. I'll also try that market by the driving range next Tuesday.
I know it's old technology but you can still buy them at almost any electronics store in the U.S. for under $50. I'll check the price of DVD recorders. I thought they were a lot more. I just want the ability to record three or four hours of TV while I am out of town for a week or so.

If anyone does find a place to buy a VCR I better get a new one for my elderly father. He’s a bit of a technophobe and it took him about ten years to learn how to programme the last one. Then it broke and he’s found out you can’t buy them any more.
I don’t think he’s prepared for another ten years of watching half of Songs of Praise and half of One Man and His Dog every time he tries to record Antiques Roadshow.

I'll check the prices here, but how many hours can a DVD hold. I was under the impression it was only about two, like a movie. A VHS tape at low quality (good enough for TV shows) could record many hours while I am away on holiday. It seems to me the only technology that has truly replaced VCRs is the DVR or PVR (hard disk recorder) and they are VERY expensive here... the cheapest one I've seen is about the cost of ten VCRs in the states. UBC has the one I would like to have because it also replaces the sat receiver box, can change UBC channels on the fly, holds 160GB of recorded programming, and can schedule up to a week in advance. The problem is the price; it is 16,000 baht plus 300 baht per month added to the program subscription. That's overkill for what I want to do. I guess the poor working class Thai never cares to record TV shows (which amazes me with all the Thai soap operas that continue on and on and a lot of the locals seem to be very hooked on them).

At the top of the Night Market Soi 72, turn right towards the level crossing/bus station, about 4 or 5 shops along on the right is a TV/DVD/Video repair shop. He has second hand and new Video recorders in there. Very good price, I wouldn't worry to much about buying second hand, the guy will always repair and gives a warranty on his work.
Per Angusta In Augusta.
