Its head doesn't look pointed enough to be a viper. Still wouldnt be trying tp pick it up though!!

Yup, that looks like the same type critter. Is his name Dave? 555 In my picture you see the same brown and black top markings and also the grey underside as this 2 meter creature was coiled up. It was fast in the water and fast out. Don't know about a striped water snake but I'd treat it as if it were a cobra.
