Hmmm, royal families, monarchy, etc. A smoking bomb of a topic!
My only question is why HM the King of Thailand deserves more respect from the people of Thailand than HM the Queen of the UK, etc. deserves from her subjects?
I'm not sure HHAD wants to get into a full-blown debate on the merits of a constitutional monarchy, which probably speaks for itself. (Not questioning the policy, just the fact that it's necessary.)

Question not answered this time, kendo.
Again, not wanting to get into potentially embarrassing detail, both monarchs have had family difficulties, but one is slightly more open to public scrutiny. I come back to the original question - families and publicity aside, why does one deserve more repect than the other?

It would appear that the British monarchy needs a new PR manager .
I might not be the man for the job but here goes my gameplan ....
Invade France immediately,if not sooner .Not being anti-Gallic,they just happen to be closest (cheaper for the taxpayers),crap at a tear-up,and have a large stash of some serious quality booze .Capture any women who know what a gillette mach 3 is for and skirt across the German border. Just to wind them up .
Proceed to Holland and steal all their drugs for the after party .Capture all the women in lace up leather trousers and head back accross the channel .
Anyone missing the ferry to Harwich should stock up on flick knives and bangers in Calais . Can't be too careful, the brussels have got previous for getting gobby after all .
Quick group moonie on the beach for the press and watch tomorrow mornings popularity polls .
NOTW on sunday and next months 'loaded' cover for sure !!!

Having met the royals and Princess Di I have only admiration for them
They generate a lot of income for the UK and to some are still a figurehead of society
Governments come and go but the monarchy is a stabilising factor
At the end of the day they are human and make mistakes. So what!

got no time whatsoever for the uk monarchy
far to many hangers on & the money could be better spent elsewhere.
it's outdated & has become an embarassment over the last few decades

Problems I have with the UK Royalty:
1) The Civil List......why the hell are we paying taxpayer money to support the richest family in England? Screw them...they own vast estates and properties. Let them pay for their own upkeep;
2) Abuse of privilege....see above re abuses of military hardware for fun purposes. Further examples include attacking members of the gutter press in public and getting let off, being raucously pissed in public and let off, smoking drugs and getting let off....shall we go on;
3) They breed embarrassingly stupid, ignorant, ill mannered and ugly children...ok thats a common problem back home but really. All that cash and education and the sods still have to cheat to pass their art exams.
4) The Queen is an overly pompous old trout who should pack in the trying to beat granny Victoria and pass the throne to someone younger and more connected to the modern world.
5) How many schemes have the royal family been involved with that better, in a direct way, the lives of their people and have been recognised as such by the world community......errr....none thats how many. Poverty relief programs....none. Educational programs....none.
6) Im sick of reading about what a big war hero the ginger fool was in Afghanistan....he was in about as much danger as me from Afghan attacks....get real....royalty stopped fighting at the front sometime around Bosworth.
7) Diana may have been a breath of fresh air but that was because she wasn't like the rest of them, a bunch of useless ignorant uncompassionate inbreeds. She had a heart...but she wasn't a saint. Its easy to do charity work when you have sod all else to do and are rich. Strange they dont do more really....guess it gets in the way of all that huntin and shootin.
The King states that the lesse majeste law should be revoked, and the royalty subjected to open criticism where deserved. The UK royals try all they can to gag the press.
I respect the King because, in my mind, he deserves it after all he has done for Thailand.
I disrespect the UK royal family because I see nothing worthy of my respect, or anyone else's.

It would seem that, from the 17th century, reigning monarchs have been given the amount of respect that they deserved. They earn this respect from the way that they conduct themselves and the good work that they do.
It is generally agreed that, in Thailand, the monarch has certainly earned the great degree of respect that he has been accorded.
The King himself has expressed the opinion that the lese majeste legislation should be repealed. We do not need a law to enforce respect for someone who is so revered.
So if someone chooses not to stand for the Royal anthem they may be pitied, ridiculed or despised. But they should not, in the 21st century, be prosecuted.

Probably the wrong place to put this “But”.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 2nd is the Queen of England. Not the UK, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
How many real English born and bred people are there left in England? And that’s not meant in a derogatory way, it’s a question!
Anybody have any statistics? I don’t mean people with British passports.

Bill mate
HM Queen Elizabeth II is "Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith."....so that would include Scotland, Wales and Ireland (note Ireland not Eire).
She is also, as the Head of Commonwealth, actually queen of 15 other separate nations. For example, her title in Australia is "Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen of Australia and Her other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth." [my emphasis]. There's also the Cook Islands potentially as number 16 .... but their status is wobbly and connected to New Zealand (of which she is queen).
Nevets
she is English......the Sax Coburg thing is an old hat argument at best....dont be daft. If you are gonna use that argument then there are no English people in England as we are all invaders at one time or another, and the indigenous people were wiped out before the Romans arrived.
..the point is, queen or not, German or English, she doesn't earn respect like The King of Thailand.
