Planning my 1st visit to HH

Hi, Thanks for the advice. I have been checking the situation on flights & did notice flights changing at Amsterdam & also Dubai fliying out of Manchester, I think I did also see a direct flight to Bangkok out of Manchester which I do think would be best, but I will have to check that one again in case I got it wrong! Again regards taxi or other method of getting to HH from Bangkok, I was in two minds whether to book into a hotel for a day or two in Bangkok so I could relax & look in to ways of getting to HH without the rush. Thanks for your advice it is appreciated as is all the other advice I have received from member.

When we first arrived here we stayed at the White Villa in HH.It is in a good position opposite the Market Village so quiet at night, very reasonable and the staff are lovely.

Not sure if Turkish airlines has flights from Manchester or not but if so, check them out. I used to use them all the time flying from London to Bangkok. The average cost of a return ticket was about £389.00 including taxes. The last time I flew to Thailand was with them as well and that was nearly four years ago so prices would have gone up by now but even at that time, they were far cheaper than any other airlines and you can buy your ticket directly from their desk at the airport. Service was always good, just as good if not better than many other airlines. As I was working offshore, I never had the chance to book flights so they suited me perfectly. At that time they had daily flights apart from Thursdays. There is a short one hour stop-over in Turkey, just enough time to get a pint in before boarding.

Accomodation in HH in plentiful so simply choose something when you get here.

Getting from Bangkok to HH is a breaze - taxi direct from the airport will set you back between 2000 - 2500 baht. The are mini buses from Victory monument but as a newby in Thailand, you may find them a bit difficult to locate. The train is a great way to get down here but it takes forever. Buses also run all the time and they are for the most part, clean and comfortable.

If you do decide on a taxi, just remember to agree on a fixed price before accepting it.

Spending a night or two in Bangkok could be wonderful for you but be warned, you may end up staying longer than you expected to.

Weather wise, if my memory is correct, you should be seeing quite a bit of rain still by the time you get over but of course I may be getting all confused

As far as I am aware, the only direct flights from the UK to Bangkok leave from Heathrow - BA, Qantas, Thai and EVA.

I have not seen to many reasonable flights direct to HH so may consider flying to Bangkok then travelling to HH from there.

I agree with Takiap about the train (although you will find distinctly pro and anti train lobbies on here!) Also the risk of staying longer than planned in Bangkok - but thats part of the hol - Sabai sabai. And getting a hotel on arrival in HH wouldn't be difficult.
If you plan to stop over in Bangkok though I would book something there, simply because is just far too big to be trailing around looking. Theres a cheap and friendly hotel or two in the Sukhamvit Soi 11 area, and although I would normally recommend one there its not an easy area to direct a taxi to! First time might be best to go for one thats more easily recognisable and 'findable' for taxis.
Air fares though have certainly gone up a lot. I did a browse myself at the weekend and the cheapest on one site for Sept out of Manchester was over 500.

Hi, Thanks for the advice. going to check the net today using a few airlines I have travelled with before. hope to get a direct flight to Bangkok so it is less hassle. If I can't get one I have seen two flights one changing in Amsterdam & one Dudai so could always go for one of them but a direct would obviously be better. I think I will stay in Bangkok for maybe two days when I arrive just to find my feet, then I can relax & make my plans for getting to HH. Will probably get a taxi but love to try the bus or train but maybe do that another time. Can you tell me how many hours does the train take from Bangkok to HH. I have seen on HHAD website that bus takes about 3 hours, also do you know how much the train trip would cost. I know taxi is round about 2400 baht which seems quite good but seen bus was about 166 baht which seems unbelievable, so just out of interest would like to know the price by train. Thanks once again for your advice.

There's no mention of prices and it was a long time ago that I last took a train to BKK, but I think you'll find the cost comparable to a bus, or minibus.

After a long flight, spend a night in bangkok to recover much less hassle than off the plane into taxi etc
we always use new world lodge - 200 yards to khoasan nd cheap as long as you internet book it (otherwise 3 x price). Taxi meter to there is about 150 plus tolls say 200 altogether and welcome to hua hin

Hi, thanks for letting me know that, think I will stay a day or two in bangkok before heading on th HH. Do you have a web address for booking that hotel in bangkok you mentioned. the more info I have the better.

What less hassle is there in getting a pre-booked taxi to Hua Hin as opposed to persuading a taxi to switch his meter on, and then getting him to take you somewhere in Bangkok?

On this latest trip I pre-booked a true executive vehicle - only 2,600 Baht all in. As my name suggests I am not small (6' 5" tall and rather overweight). The journey to Hua Hin was a pleasure - so comfortable I slept most of the way. The outward journey completed just 4 hours after touchdown in BKK. Let the holiday commence.


To me, unless you're looking for the additional sleaze of Bangkok, you'd only be prolonging the agony by staying a night or two. Night one, you'll probably be so knackered, you won't feel like partying, and night two you'll be having one eye on the next day's journey.
