Honda Summer Music Fest

Well, well, well..... It seemed to take it's time. Much longer than I thought as there's a lot of money to be made, but it's finally arrived.

I would have loved to have been a part of the festival but as a 'Bangkokian' now, could not make it.

This is the turning point of Hua Hin (IMO).For so long has Hua Hin appealed to the older generation, and, for so long the 'powers that be' in Hua Hin have not hit the market for the younger crowd.

That has all changed now.

The only time in the year you could see that kind of line up in Hua Hin was at 19 rai (Queens Park) during Mothers Day, Fathers Day or New year, which would consist of a 1 hour 'set' with the most famous of the lot. Generally the crowd outside of Hua Hin won't make the journey to see a 1 hour set from the their 'idols'. Now they are having festivals with all the big names in a day.

I predict that now Hua Hin has been put on the map with the younger generation ( 16- 30 ) you will see no less than 4 big festivals on the beach next year. There is nothing better than a show on the beach.... Hua Hin has that.

I may be wrong.... let's see what happens. The younger generation NOW know Hua Hin as a 'Party On The Beach' and it will bring in a lot of income.

I hope everyone there had a great time, think yourself lucky..... you could be in Bangkok!!!!

Here are some more shots of the event which was bigger than expected. We had a great vantage point from the 'Peacock' anchored just off the coast, could take in the music without getting into the fray which consisted mostly of Bangkok 'wairoons'. Music was good with rock, reggae and some upbeat ska.

Shots are a little lacking on the quality side as the weather wasn't great and they were taken from quite a distance with a 300mm lens. They give you some idea of the size of the concert though.

Good pics Buksida, is it me or are half of the audience actually in the sea? I know you were bobbing on a boat (safe), but the thought of young Thais maybe drinking one too many bottles of Spy bopping in the sea is a recipe for disaster (they don't do swimming...).

Ho hum, I do hope the local rubbish picker-uppers managed to collect enough bottles (plastic and glass) to make it worth their while.

The traffic heading into Takiab as we were leaving was obscene - double lane gridlock from Takiab village back to Chivasom, all the way down Petchkasem, through the centre of town and out the other side to around soi 51.

Where all these muppets thought they were going to park after the two hour wait staring at the SUV in front I don't know. Expect similar carnage for the Jazz festival ... two wheels rule!

I must admit, as I was cutting through the traffic I couldn't help but love my little motorsai There are some times when it's just the only way to get anywhere. Cars? Pah, who needs them.
