didn't see the incident, far to many handbags flying about!! ( as well as snot!) :D
then again there were a few incidents they didn't highlight,
the tevez left hook on makelele, could have been a red if seen by the ref?
carvalho's legbreaker on ronaldo, only a yellow, another possible red?
ferdinands attempted decapitation of joe cole, second yellow & possible penalty?? the linesman flagged then put it down again :?
all in all, in the heat of the battle, the ref did reasonably well :thumb:

as for jt setting a bad example, how about the current england captain ferdinand?
missed a drugs test, drink driving & speeding offences & a drunken video gang bang to his credit? great role model

rzr,
No disagreeing with you on Ferdinand's antics off the pitch, but on the pitch I think he handles himself a lot better than Terry. Neither of them should be England captain really, but I'm not sure who does fit the bill. It needs to be a vocal leader who is also a a good enough player to warrant being selected for England. Gerrard is probably the closest to that but a succession of managers (club and international) choose not to play him in his most effective position consistently, so he is rarely a definite first choice for England. Hopefully Capello will play him in the centre as an attacking midfielder, with one of Carrick, Hargreaves or Barry alongside him.

he's one of the worst in the prem redzone for me, he 'raised his hand' but barely touched the man u player, so not really a red for me. BUT how many times does he go down under the same circumstances to try and get opponents off. real snide piece of work.
He dont need to do it cos he's a top striker, credit where its due.
I love it when they get their cummupance, he would have took pen instead of Terry, so probably cost them the match.

Same same Lehman's sending off for the woolwich against Barcelona. Brilliant.

But then maybe Im just a biased, bitter Spurs fan.
The only London team to win a 'major' trophy this season, well its major for us!!!

WL,
I'd say Gerrard for captain. He comes across as a quiet bloke, but when you look at him he dont half gee the other Liverpool players up.
best all-round midfielder in the world for me. No diving, play acting, hard as they come but just gets on with it. Reminds me of Darren Anderton LMAO

gerrard for me too :thumb: no competition!
first name on the teamsheet for me everytime & as you say w/l, in his best position, centre midfield.
definately a good role model for the youngsters :thumb:
he's been messed about a bit by benitez, playing him out of position, also taking him off in the merseyside derby
i think if he wasn't such a hometown liverpool boy, he'd have left by now.

it would be nice to see him lined up alongside fabregas at the emirates :thumb: :D

Giggs

Overtakes B Charltons appearance record ...... in the European cup final no less
Think I heard he's the most 'medaled up' Man U player of all time ?

Can you think of a single negative incident involving him ? Apart from being born in Wales.

yep, great achievement but should coming on for 3 mins really count as an appearance?? :?

bobby charlton 758 apps 4 as sub
giggs 758 apps 88 as sub.

has to be said that sir bobby played most of his playing career when there were no subs!!!

Super Joe you must be having a laugh comparing Stevie G to Sicknote (Darren Anderton). Not a Spurs fan by anychance SJ.

I agree with you on Drogba, at his best he is brilliant (as in the 2nd leg against Liverpool), but only flashes last night, but saying that still nearly manged to get us a win when he hit the post in the 2nd half. But I do think that he has now played his last game, would take a long time for him to win back some respect in the dressing room after getting sent off.

Cannot go along with the JT bashers, I think he will be Englands captain, and is just the sort of vocal captain that England want. If he does not get the job I do think it will go to Ferdinand,

JT seems to have had the respect of the players and fans when the has done the job in the past and can see no reason for him not to continue in the future.

All this bollocks that people are going on about him or Ferdinand not being suitable role models for kids is utter crap.

It is the same here in Australia when someone from the Aussie Rules, Rugby or Cricket do something wrong the PC brigade come out in their droves with all the same sort of crap.

Why not let the players be judged on what they do on the field not what happens after they finish their days work.

If the same people who preach this sort of crap were to have the same scrutiny applied to their work and personal life, then perhaps they might be preaching a different story.

I'm a United a fan but John Terry is one of the few players in Chelseas team of mercenaries and whingers I admire.
Its obvious he loves the club and I felt for him missing that penalty.....a shame it wasnt Ballack who missed instead.
OK so he did something stupid in the past, just the same as Ferdinand, but he was young then and both have them have matured.
Personally I wouldnt mind any of Terry,Ferdinand or Gerrard as England captain but, most important,Gerrard would have to play in his favoured role of central midfield.

Zidane I think that is one reason that Stevie G will not be Englands captain because with him and Lampard in the same team, neither will get their favoured position.

I also think that it is much better to have a defender as captain (be it JT or Rio) as they can see what is going on in front of them all of the time, but with a midfielder that sort of vision is a lot harder.

Therfore I would see either JT or Rio as capatain and whoever does not get the job as vice captain.

chelsea,
You obviously wear blue tinted spectacles when you watch Terry; as I said he is a very good defender, but the Captain should set the example to both his team and the fans with his behaviour both on and off the pitch. This isn't PC talk, but parent talk, and I do not want kids copying what Terry does - racist taunts, gobbing at other players, aggressive behaviour towards referees and other players - this is not the stuff that captains should be even thinking about, let alone an international captain. How can we expect kids to have any respect for others when they see this sort of behaviour get rewarded? :guns:
