Grr. My poor little hairdryer motorbike has been a right bastard lately. Every now and then it'll just decide to stop working. This is characterised by a sudden loss of power and refusal to start for about 20 minutes before going again. Sometimes this lasts longer, sometimes not so. Invariably the longest waits happen when I'm further from home, usually resulting in me pushing the bloody thing. Good thing I'm reasonably fit.
Anyway, it did it today, refusing to start etc. Went to the mechanic and did my best scooby doo impression trying to explain the problem, particularly relating the relevance of it often starting ok but then cutting out the moment you hit the throttle should one allow it to go back to tick-over.
I ask what time to come back for the bike. The guy points at my watch at 2 O Clock, so 2 it is then. I arrive at 3 (give them some extra time in case it's more complicated) and find that the bike is still crap. A charge of 50 baht is levied but they appear to have done bugger all. It still doesn't start, except with great pissing about, and it's still sounding like a hairdryer with a nest of bees located somewhere in its interior.
Bloody bike. So the big question: Where the bloody hell can I get a decent mechanic?

You appear to be a victim of Thai mentality .Your bike appears to have more than one problem .However your complaint is that it does not start so once the mechanic gets it to start its obviously fixed .The root cause of the problem will not be addressed until it falls off the bike. You live in the land of the bodge job .Try taking the bike to the harley shop next to the easy riders bar by soi 56 on the klong road .They don't do this kind of bike but should be able to tell you what is wrong .Then ask the mechanic to fix or replace in detail .The one close to them is pretty good in our experience .

I'll give it a go. To be honest though as you say it probably won't get fixed til something blows up. I'm just a little stuck as it means while I wait for my bike to finally give up the ghost I can't really take it on any longer runs without being a little nervous about getting stuck in the middle of nowhere!
