Dutch-speaking lawyer

Post by Pee Chang »

I was offered a house the other day.The Thai lady who said that she owned it ,needed money urgently. She could not show the papers of the house ;they were with a gentleman in Petchaburi as a bond for a loan she got from him!No problem,"my lawyer will take care of everything for you" she said.I told her ,before we go on with this I want to speak to an independant lawyer who speaks MY language :Dutch !
On short notice I could not find a Dutch-speaking ,reliable lawyer.
Does anybody know one in the Hua-Hin area ??
Thanks in advance!

I have never heard of any Dutch-speaking lawyer in Hua Hin.
However, I think you should avoid the mentioned house as long as the owner doesn't have any legal papers in her possession.
You will only get into big and serious problems if you go further with this.
I intend to live forever - so far so good.

Bangkok is your only chance. Contact the Dutch embassy. They have lists. Do not expect to much from inquiries per email. Call them and then email them after they gave you a direct address and a name.

And I agree with Norseman: be very careful here. She does not have the papers in her possession due to debts (alarm bells). If next to that it is a "bargain" presented with a sad story about forced to sell due to blablabla (more alarm bells)........run.

But of course I do not know the details so contacting your own lawyer is the right way to proceed with this.

IF she is really forced to sell and IF she sells cheap then potential Thai buyers would be waiting in line already.

I am sure many readers on this forum are interested in how things work out. Please inform us with the positive and/or negative outcomes.
Good luck!
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.

Tks for replies.
Indeed, too many alarmbells were ringing:it seemed almost too good to be true so I stopped negociations.
In the meantime this house has been bought by a Thai gentleman !!
He will put it for rent some of these days.I'' ll try to rent it (I still love this place !)
Good for me: no risk,no worries and I still can live in the house I wanted to.
P.S a good and reliable/independant english-speaking lawyer would have done also.Any suggestions ?
