Chatting with friends with a breeze in your face and the sounds of the sea in the background.
A land of tolerance and acceptance to those who are different.
Kids who respect elders and authority.
Not so much binge drinking and loutish behaviour (Pattaya excepted).
No more suits to get drycleaned!
Never wear socks or a jacket

People smile

It is a wonderful country
Most of all my Thai wife and my dog
Woke up this morning breathing that's a good start to the day.
Just to keep this positive thread alive here, I will note three very pleasant experiences from this past week.
1. Called to have screen doors installed in a new room. The guy came and measured the doorways the same day. The very next day, the doors arrived and were installed to our satisfaction. (One day service??) Price and quality both reasonable.
2. My "Maxnet" went down two days ago. I called the listed number at TT&T. and spoke to a guy( I used what Thai I have, but he spoke excellent English.) Said he would check into it. A bit more than an hour later, to my great surprise, two TT&T techs arrived at my door, came in and reset something on my computer. Five minutes later I was back in business! No hassle, no fee.
3. Last night had my first experience of a smoke-free Hilton ( HH Brewing Co) club and what a wonderful difference it makes! The evening was actually enjoyable, despite all the usual down sides of the Hilton "experience" that we have so often detailed here. ( Including a band that will not play anything close to a reggae after the first set and that actually played that dreadful "Mayahee" thing that died three years ago!)
What amazed me most is that here in this country where so many laws are just not followed or enforced, here is a law that has taken immediate effect and it looks like compliance is taken very seriously. This is of course my own unofficial survey based on a last night's visit and a brief tour of a couple clubs in Bangkok a week ago. As a non-smoker, it is just another reason for me to love living here and to admire the Thai government for passing the law and bar owners for following it.
My goodness, so refreshing to read such enthusiasm. On some of the Pattaya posts I have been reading, you would think the Ferang is a hunted species !
My wife and I for one are looking forward to our next trip, and yes we are thinking seriously about retiring. Sounds a wonderful place when you read this thread

Wow can see u guys/gals loving it everyday in hua hin, i am jealous hehe...
i live in Singapore, life's so hectic here and with the costs of everything rising everyday it can be a real killer... argh... take fuel prices for example, costs about SGD 2.20 an average for a litre and i am driving a 60 litres car, topping up at least 2 times a month or so, do the maths... argh...
anyway just wanna enquire is it easy to find a job in hua hin? for a foreigner like me?
I love Thailand. Anyone who has read my posts will know that. Why?
1. Food. I love Thai food.
2. Weather.
3. People (much nicer here)
4. Not doing everything at 20000 miles per hour.
It's certainly not perfect but it meets my needs perfectly, and helps to give me a new perspective on life. I think that's worth the air fare.
Libraries gave us power, then work came and made us free. What price now for a shallow piece of dignity?
