Money in the Bank

Post by thaicat »

Can anyone help - does the 800,000 baht required for retirement visa have to be in baht, is it okay to have sterling equivalent so long as it is in a Thai Bank Account? :?

I would reckon that it'll have to be in Baht, but I'm not 100% sure. Are there in fact accounts here that allow you to keep your money in foreign currency?
If there are, I'd ask Imm what types of account they allow for extension purposes. I believe they frown on certain ones for this purpose, especially ones that tie your money up for a period of time and offer higher interest.

It has to be in Baht and all in an account that you actually use on a regular basis. As you know the balance over the previous three months prior to your visit to Immigation must not show less than Bht 800,000
