Palm Tree Trimmer

Post by Chas »

I have two full size palm trees near my house producing immense coconuts at a great rate. Problem is they are TOO close to my house and one of those enormous suckers actually punctured the roof last year. They are a menace but the trees look terrific.

I need someone with some intelligence to trim these two trees. That is. . .climb up, remove all except the green palm fronds and climb down again.

Made the mistake of getting the local gardeners to find someone. They found a 12 year old who managed the climbing up and down Ok but hadn't a clue what to cut and what not to cut. He took down most of the green palm fronds and left every single coconut. I now have one tree that looks like it has been butchered and another that is half butchered because he found some bees up there and quit.

400 baht later and one tree is still dropping coconut bombs on my roof while the other looks like it suffered a direct hit from a grenade and has leaf ends and pointy leaf pods just waiting to fall on my head in the weeks to come.

The hotels must employ someone for this task as their palm trees always look great and have no trash or coconuts in them to fall and injure their guests. It is obviously a "specialty" and not something you can expect an ordinary gardener to do.

Anyone have a name or a company that might do this kind of work?

Thanks Crazy88. Tried that and was not successful ( my Thai is just not good enough).

Does anyone else have any ideas? These things have already smashed two roofing sheets and are driving me crazy. I hate to just cut the trees down because they shade the house very nicely and look great.

Very professional!

Well, Nereus, I have to thank you for your recommendation of K. Kai as a source of help! My palm tree problems are solved!

He has work crews doing various jobs around the area, evidently based in Pranburi. He speaks perfect English!

I made a phone call yesterday to explain the problem. He arrived this morning with a palm tree guy and a crew of helpers. The guy who went up the trees is obviously a skilled professional who knows what he is doing. It was amazing to watch him work.

The "killer bees" or wasps turned out to be nothing more than some harmless coconut sucking bugs.

About an hour's work and I now have two clean and beautiful palm trees. The cleanup crew even went into the canal to retrieve bits of the tree that fell into it, vacuumed the sidewalk and also moved and put back some flower pots that were in danger. Very good work and at a very reasonable price too.

Add this to the positive experiences of living in Thailand!
