WE WILL ROCK YOU! (Bangkok)

Post by Jockey »

If interest is generated, I'm thinking of organising a mini bus / overnight stay for this event on Saturday 26th July (returning to Hua Hin afternoon of Sunday 27th July). The bus will leave Hua Hin at 1pm, take us to a pre booked hotel (cost around 1,000 thb per room), then on to the show by same mini bus. The bus will then leave the hotel on Sunday at 1pm returning to Hua Hin. Anyone interested please PM me. The cost of the bus will be divided equally amongst us. You will have to make your own arrangements to book the tickets for the show.

From www.thaiticketmajor.com

WE WILL ROCK YOU burst onto the London stage in May 2002 and has been playing to packed houses ever since, becoming the longest-running musical to play at the Dominion – one of the West End's largest theatres.

We Will Rock You is a new breed of musical; a unique collaboration between QUEEN – the legends of rock – and one of Britain 's most successful playwrights and comic genius, Ben Elton. The result is an electrifying “rock theatre” experience that is “guaranteed to blow your mind” and send audiences out of the theatre on a high. It was author and director Ben who persuaded Queen's founding members Roger Taylor and Brian May to use Queen's songs for a musical. Undoubtedly it is the Ben Elton/Queen marriage that has created the masterpiece, but they sensibly added some of the world's top creative talent to the mix.

The sets are designed by Mark Fisher, who in a stellar career has designed sets for Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas, The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd to name but a few. Arlene Phillips provides stunning choreography. She has choreographed countless West End productions, including Starlight Express, Grease, Saturday Night Fever and the recent West End triumph The Sound of Music. She also appears as a judge on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing which is broadcast around the world. Christopher Renshaw, a director of opera and musical theatre internationally, directed the Tony award-winning Broadway and West End production of The King and I, before turning his attention to the London production of We Will Rock You

So successful has the show been that it opened to record advances in Toronto in 2005 where it continues to play to packed audiences nightly. In addition to an ongoing Spanish-language touring production in Spain , WE WILL ROCK YOU also continues to break box office records in Germany , where it is the number one grossing musical of all time. Other territories recently conquered by WE WILL ROCK YOU include Las Vegas , Japan and Australia . Globally, more than 6 million people have now seen the show.

In the international touring production, the cast of 28 international performers includes Mig Ayesa as Galileo. Mig has more than 750 performances as Galileo on the West End stage to his credit. Stealing a fair chunk of the limelight is New Zealand's pop princess, Annie Crummer as Killer Queen, who was specifically chosen by Ben Elton and Brian May to play the role of Killer Queen as they were ‘blown away' by the power and range of her voice, not to mention her unique stage presence.

The enormous scale, size and cost of the show makes We Will Rock You one of the biggest musicals ever staged. Not only does the show have a large cast, it is also a huge, highly technical and physical production boasting enough sound equipment to satisfy the most ardent rock ‘n' roll fans, together with never-seen-before video technology, rock concert lighting and an intricate and futuristic set.

This is a brilliant show, which I have seen in London a number of time.

I have booked already for the Bangkok performance and was surprised at the number of seats that had already been sold, on the day we are are going anyway.

I went and saw the show in Bangkok last Saturday and it was fantastic. The music sent shivers down my spine (especially when the play clips of the late great Freddie singing)

I highly recommend the night out. The cast is amazing, the theatre is lovely (but cold of course!).

There were seats still available - I only booked mine at lunchtime on the same Saturday.

Tickets can be booked at the Major Cineplex on the 3rd floor of market village.

Saw the show in London and going again on Sunday to see it in Bangkok that is the last night, so you do not have much time left to see this fabulous performance. A must for any Queen fan!

Yes we are really looking forward to this! No takers from HHAD for a mini bus event, so we're just going to meet a couple of good friends in Bangkok and go together with them. I notice there are still tickets available. www.thaiticketmajor.com

unfortunately we had already booked for the 27th before you mentioned the mini bus or we would have taken you up on the offer.

Cannot understand why this performance has had so little publicity compared to Cats last November.

Am going with te family tonight to see this. Am sure it will be wondferful.

Publicity seems upto normal standards - BKK covered in posters, literally everywhere. Radio interviews, and advertisements, bus adverts, and of course at Thai Ticketmajor, where all staff are wearing WWRY T Shirts. Postal campaign by Amex.

Went to see Cats in November, wonderful also, in that case, I first learned of it though a Thai Airways ROP promotion.

Looking forward to it tonight.

Went to see WWRY last night.

Very good, music generally wonderful, atmos fantastic towards the end.

Few disappointments, the lead role was played by an understudy (although he was very good), and the Killer Queen couldn't sing for Toffee!

Apart from those 2 issues, a wonderful and highly recommended experience.
