RATS

Post by richard »

My soi has seen a sudden increase in rats

OK we all know they are everywhere but an increase???

Caught one today in my living room. We don't have a dog. Dawn I might be calling soon!!!!

Is there not a department in local government that deals with such situations? OK I know TIT but it would help if some could be cleared

OK before the wise guys jump in, there is no Pied Piper in Thailand :D

Think there is supposed to be a 'Pest Control' richard, but I don't think it's a very pro-active department, unless, for example, the rats started dragging the soi dogs down the gutter to a disturbing end. (Emoticon aimed at 'Pest control', not richard)

2 big dead ones today at lunchtime on the street where the night market is -no one seemed to care. Perhaps it has something to do with the amount of rain we have had the past few days...

Are these the cute, brown rice field rats, or the big black and greasy 'subway' rats? I saw one in Bangkok once that I thought was a cat as it was up on it's back legs with it's front legs over the lip of a small trash can.

In any event, I bait the gardens over here with the product from Bayer (gel packs). They drag them back into their burrow and they and the whole family are history after that. Pete

Please, please, please be ever so careful with the rat poison they sell here.

I know of three lovely dogs who died eating it (one I desperately tried to save  ). I'm probably preaching to the converted, but please put it in a container small enough only for rats.

Unfortunately, where I live, the Thais sprinkle rat poison around with gay abandon. The underfed dogs (mine not included) will eat anything.

Richard: A dog might not be a bad idea. My dog Rubble (aka snake wrangler) is a dab hand at catching rats, spotting scorpions, yelling at giant centipedes, and generally warning us of any insurgents.

I grew up in Detroit where we had rats as big as cats.

I'll travel to the most dangerous areas, kick a cobra, swat a black widow, eat som tam, but I hate rats!!

would love a dog but the landlady who lives next door won't allow it

To her, rats are part and parcel of Thailand

Why? Does she give a reason?
