Fingerprinting

Post by PeteC »

Back in the 70's in the USA it was the norm to take your kids to the police station and have them fingerprinted. These were kept in a file at home in case of kidnapping, accident etc. All things we don't like to think about, but happen. (I wonder if they had a set for Maddie?)

Anyway, has anyone tried to do it here at any police station? I would guess if you gave them 100 baht or so they would probably do it, thinking "...what is this crazy farang doing...". Pete

I certainly couldn't see such a thing happening in the land of political correctness (UK). The do-gooders won't even give us an ID card. These so called do-gooders must have a hell of a lot to hide.

Well, I'll see what they say over this side of the gulf. If negative I guess time to bring, or have someone bring, some cards next trip back home. They're readily available on-line. Then buy an ink pad and do it yourself.

It's a whole new world however. Perhaps just keeping a lock of hair, a swab of dried blood, a baby tooth etc., for DNA analysis is the route to go these days. I'll have to read up on what constitutes a good DNA sample that will last in storage for years. Pete

I think Thais have to give fingerprints when getting a passport (possibly ID card as well?) so that might be why the local police don't do it.

Pete, if it’s just for identification purposes couldn’t you do it yourself. I used to get fingerprinted every six months in Indonesia for a work permit and they just grabbed each finger in turn, pushed it into an inkpad and rolled it into a square on a piece of paper.

Alternatively paint something black at knee-height and wait ten minutes; you’ll have all the fingerprints you will ever need!

I can see kids being chipped in the future. Certainly be useful for those little s**ts that stab people.

Correct according to Lady Guess. She got one a few years ago which reminds me it needs replacing in BKK I think. Does anybody know where?

The UK have double standards with ID. You don't need to carry it but they can take your photo every five minutes and store it.

In Thailand, if they found someone dead or unconscious would they have the ability to cross check with fingerprints?

A sad case in point some of you may have read about over the weekend. A Thai police corporal and his gang kidnapped 5-6 youngsters in Chachengsao, killed the Father of one of them, and then killed one of the children in Bang Sen (Chonburi) before being caught. Ages 5-14 approximately, probably destined for the sex trade. Protect your children! Pete :(
