In a moment of lager fuelled weakness, I had a suit made in HH three or four years ago. At each fitting, the salesman (doubt any of them are tailors) told me it was OK. I told him it didn't fit. Several adjustments later, I ran out of time and had to take it (with hindsight I shouldn't have). The first time I wore it, the lining came apart. The second time I wore it, it went in the bin. It could be called a suit but it couldn't be called tailoring. I doubt that much has changed since then.
From my experience, the 'copy' tailors are irritating hawkers who pester tourists and drag down the image of the town. I'm sure there are some happy customers, but from experience, I would recommend saving your money.

In contrast, anyone going to Hong Kong, I'd recommend Ash Samtani, on Nathan Road, in the Burlington Arcade.

Don't try antwhere in Hua Hin. just look at all the threads about the awful tailors. Best bet try Bangkok.

My mother had a suit made a few years ago and is still very very pleased with it.

My daughter had an extensive range made 2 or 3 years ago. She is over the moon with what she got and she would definately buy more if she had the money.

Both had them made at "Sunny's" on the left on the road into the Hyatt in Kao Takieb. Not cheap (in Thai standards but in UK standards cheap) and they can't do 4 hours but given 2 or 3 days, the product is exceptional.

john,

I've had a lot of clothes made over a period of 8 years using various tailors. I've never had cause for complaint. Any clothes I wear have to be of robust construction because of my sheer bulk

Just make sure you specify precisely what you want, take somebody with you at each fitting to make constructive comment and most importantly, don't pay the final installment until you are happy.

surprisingly the tailor right next to the gates of hell (Nana plaza) has quite a good reputation. double wide shop house right next door/(next gate), believe it is called the Rajah tailors-if i got the name wrong the proprietor's name is Bobby. Drop the name to confirm.

tailors

None of the Indians are tailors, just salesmen, just go behind the bus station close to the railway crossing next to cable TV, you will see many sweatshops, full of sowing machines, I was told lately that the tailors have stopped using Thai's and use cheaper burmese labourers to do the stitching here. maybe thats why the quality is so poor at the moment.

The one thats just opened in the downstairs of the Sand Inn is working his way up to a punch on the nose.....

he seems new to town as I thought all the ones here were told not to hijack people in the street and grab them...or hassle them every sodding time they walk past.....

maybe hes just had a brain transplant with a goldfish....

I had a couple of suit and shirt and tie combos made by one of the Sukhumvit Sams....one that advertised in a flight mag.....somewhere near sio 9 as I recall.

still good as ever afer 9 years.

The best bit was a ankle length black cashmere coat lined in purple silk....very Goth gunfighter. All for a song too...a few hundred dollars for the lot.

I too have one just like it. Excellent value, and very warm. Unfortunately, the English winter rarely gets cold enough to wear it without ending up in a puddle of sweat - I think I wore it twice last winter.

It certainly makes you stand out out in a crowd - you very rarely see a coat of similar quality in the UK.

agree entirely mate, but hell....I loved suffering for my style. My boss used to call it my Tombstone coat....and always eyed it with envy:thumb:

Try the Nepalese guys down past the Hilton. On the right hand side by the beach rd, called Milano, I had some nifty gear made there about 5 or 6 years ago, still wear it occasionally and the nice thing is it seems to have stretched to stay fitting!!!!!!!!
ps how can any coat break you into a sweat in the UK in winter!! i don't beleive It!!!!
