Right there Understudy. But er... are you using the same avatar as Buksi? Or is Buksi using the same avatar as you? Or is it me going cross eyed?

(Sorry about that, just noticed!)

I have no insight into the minds of the advertising/branding gurus but I have to say mini is a bit more understood internationally and more trendy. Don't forget this is a French company selling in Thailand.

Just wait 'til the Indians start opening grocery stores here.

The "Magnificent C Emporium"???

Special today. Everything at special price for you.

When did the French take over Big C? The Dutch maybe?

Big C and Other Building

Post by Janis »

I have been coming to Hua Hin for around 7 years now for a holiday and I can only say from my point of view how disappointed I was on my last visit with all the new building work that had occured in the last 6 months - I used to enjoy coming to Hua Hin to just chill out and enjoy the beach and then go to the bars with my husband and friends at night - now the bars in town don't have the same friendliness about them - they have even managed to change that part of life as well - the last time I was there in February it was like landing on the film set of Cocoon - all the walnut coloured wrinklies moaning about the price of the food in the supermarkets and not getting a seat on the local bus and the most annoying complaint was someone on the bus complaining about them having too many Thai people moving in alongside them - whose country is it? Don't they realise that at the end of the day no matter how much property you own your are still only a visitor and the reason for going to Thailand is to experience a different culture not go there expecting everyting that you get back home :cuss:

Don't get me wrong Janis, I agree with you but whose countries make up the UK. Wouldn't it be refreshing if our government adopted the same attitude to our foreign visitors.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make, HHTel, but there aren't too many 'aliens' living on retirement visas in the UK, and the visa/border run done by farang here would get a big laugh from most western immigration services.

Big C in HuaHin

Don't worry HHTel - I can't get the hang of the quaotes at all! (Quaotes!?)
Janis makes a good point though. I'd already heard that HH has become Concrete City quite quickly. As for the wrinklies out of Cocoon - nice analogy, but I'll have to make my own judgement on the change soon.

I guess the demographics in HH reflect the ageing population over here in the UK. Now more people aged over 60 than under 18. So what's come first? Big Mini Micro C's or Big Spending Retired Farangs?
