A very good analysis can be found on today's ATol backing up what I have said for a long time about the deep rooted divisions within the entire Kingdom, not just Bangkok.

(BangkokPost.com) - Police demolished the main stage of People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) at Makkhawan Rangsan bridge and removed tents around the site Friday, as hundreds others forced their way back into the Government House to deliver a court order for the eviction of protesters trying to overthrow the government.

The protesters were outnumbered, and could not obstruct the police's action.

Police were able to seize baseball bats and iron rods from the site. They also claimed that they found drugs there.

Regardless of media sensationalism I don't think this is the end of it, there are some powerful and determined people out there. You can get live TV coverage here (but naturally it is biased):

As usual the police forget to agree on what to say to the press:

"Eight companies of police were pushed out early Friday," Lieutenant General Panu Kerdlarphol, deputy Bangkok Metropolitan Commissioner, told AFP.

Last night, 900 police officers stationed in the compound left during a routine guard change and weren't replaced, Surapol Thuanthong, a police spokesman said. ``The police moved out last night because they have been inside for a long time and the stress they have had over the past few days could lead to problems,'' Surapol said. what is worrying is the man that has been "chosen" to take over leadership of the PAD should the current core be arrested..Gen Panlop Pinmanee..he has already said if the core are arrested he will take the protests to a different level of direct action....he is talking street violence.

may be brinksmanship and sabre rattling.....or may just be what is on the cards for next week.

that may explain the increased security at the palace.....the tanks are warming their engines.

worrying times for The Kingdom :|

And I've got to go to BKK on Monday and stay overnight. Should I take a bulletproof vest and try and get some pix, or just hang out around Sukhumvit?

Get in there and take some photos dammit, talk to the people on the ground ... we're stuck in Hua Dull Hin where the most exciting things to happen are a building being painted orange, another coffee shop opening or a sausage and pie stand-off.

Oh for some action!

Gen Pinmanee has a very nasty history:http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedi ... p-Pinmaneehopefully this is just a threat to deter the arrest of the present leadership.

I think you're taking the whole 'protection' thing a tad too far

OK. I'll take my box brownie, enough protection to "feel safe" and try to get the pix on the front cover of Time Magazine.
Katoeys? Didn't think there were any around Sukhumvit.

Wear a yellow shirt Lomu, it's Monday anyway and also a good idea given what's going on. Pete

Hi there Y"all!!!

It's just been reported in the last hour that PAD of Phuket and Krabi had seized the International Airport @ both locations and their submitted their demands over Airport Authority.
One of those demands are That the airport seizes all Operration and close all inbound and outbound Flights.
Meanwhile the Protesters had taken over the the entire Parking lot and entrance to Terminal and plan to stage their rally on airport grounds alongside with the standoff inside the Govt building compound.

Thoughts: Instad of comming into BKK would bring those southern protesters nothing kust big fatigue from driving all the way up to Bangkok. Instead they are seizing the Airport. Man I would like to laugh @ their faces when the Phuket tourists got scared stay away this high season. why not invade the local municipality for crying out loud.?
Well there goes Thailand!!!
