Hua Hin to Samui.

Post by martyboy »

Hi folks,

I will be in Hua Hin in February and will need to travel to Ko Samui and back. What's the best way? I know a train runs to Surattani but it's a further journey from there to Samui.
Any ideas?

I've only driven to Samui from HH, but I'd imagine the simplest way to do it would be to get on the BK-to-Samui VIP bus (which I'm fairly sure stops at HH).

Otherwise there are doubtless various minibus options that will take you straight there...
This is the way

Bus stops at the clock tower about 8:15 am or so. Ticket agent can tell you exactly when. Ticket is a reserved seat on the coach.
Best is to get tix for the Lomprayah fast catamaran from agents in town. The fare includes bus right to the pier and the boat ride. The pier is several km outside Chumpon. It takes about 8 hours in all, if weather is good.

Further add:
On arrival at the pier on Samui there will be minivans lined up that go to different destinations.
If you know your destination you simply tell one of the Lomprayah staff and they will direct you to the correct van. This service is included in your bus/boat ticket.

Much depends upon time available.

My preferred route is Hua Hin to Chumporn Ferry port by bus and then ferry (cat) to Ko Tao and on to Samui without touching Ko Pangnang. I am not sure if the direct ferry Ko Tao to Ko Samui is available all year round.

You can get a bus directly from Hua Hin to either Surat port or Don Sak. This could be actually quicker than flying if you take all the additional travel and waiting into consideration with flying.

Boats will run from Chumporn-Tao-Phangan-Samui year round unless weather makes the journey unsafe .If driving you need to go to Donsak .Allow 5 hours from Hua Hin preferably 6 and remember the last ferry is 7 or 7.30 and you should either get there early or book in advance .Been caught out a couple of times .Lomprayah and Seatran are the best services IMO
