A note about the Nationwide Credit Card Visa card. I had 2 online transactions turned down by Nationwide last week as they were classed as risky and to suspicious companies. One was to Qatar airlines, the other to EasyCar hire in UK. When I called Nationwide they said that only companies signed up with Visa Verify will allow online transaction (to prevent fraud) - all other transactions will not be allowed. They suggested that before making and large purchases online I should call them first. Their deinition of large ???
100 GBP !!!!!!!
Nationwide Credirt Card
Maybe I can shed some light as I used my cards to the max when furnishing this new house over here. Cards with Chase, HSBC, CPB and Amex.Guess wrote:Perhaps you should try a Credit card rather than a credirt card.![]()
Amazing. I can understand cost cutting Easy everything but Qatar, I am surprised. Did they warn you of this when the card was issued?
I started to run into the same problems with all and the reason was that I hadn't used them too often over here. They told me once their 'computer' (not a human) sees a pattern of spending and on time payments, there won't be a problem with one's location, unless you do a really big item, then the merchant will get a message for you to call the card company on the spot.
The only on-line problem I had was with Amex, also for an airline ticket, and once again I hadn't used the card for over a year. A call and answering some security questions solved it all quickly. 100 pounds though sounds a bit much. I really think the key is to use the card at least once a quarter for something. Pete

Or maybe use a bank that is in the 20th century. I wrote about my impression of Nationwide about a year ago. Back then I warned that you should not put all of your eggs in one basket ie keep a slush fund elsewhere that could be used when Nationwide cocked up.

Pete - correct !
A couple of year ago I was in Shanghai and needed to pay the 7 nights accommodation for a group of 30 people - the hotel asked me to call the credit card company a couple of hours before making the payment, and they authorised it.
(it was slightly more than 100pounds)
The only other time I had a problem with a card was in Moscow this spring -won't even go into it...
