Opening a Bank Account
No one has mentioned Thai Farmers - are they still on the go? I always found Bangkok Bank and Thai Farmers most helpful, and Ayuthaya Bank good for foreign exchange and paying household bills.

Opening a Bank Account
Ah - thanks Lomu. The used to be very easy - 1000 Bt and instant card. Maybe some policy changes under new management though.

Depends what your needs are...
I went to Bangkok Bank to open a saving account with internet banking, apparently no-can-do in one account. Had to open 2 separate accounts which took about 2-3 hours, vary annoyed with the speed of the service compared to amount of staff on mobile phones chatting away. Good on the phone from outside Thailand to sort problems over the phone. My view was the Hua Hin branch were un-supervised but the phone banking was supervised and service was good.
After opening an account at Bangkok Bank, went across the road to K-Bank. Fast service comparatively, but after sale service not as good as BB from my POV international wise. Also noticed they were really pushing the money lending and term deposits at the counter with the staff selling.

The Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn that are opposite each other are a nightmare for service and being busy.
The new Bangkok Bank right next to Market Village is great, no queues. Open 7 days (or 6?) a week until 6pm. The big Thai guy who used to do accounts in the main branch is based in there and knows all the rules.
Or try Siam Commercial or Kasikorn in Market Village, again not as busy as in town and open 7 days until 8 or 9pm.
