Re: Minivan and bus accidents
My wife got me to come to the TV tonight..she says the police have the truck-driver in custody..Tv news showed him in cuffs with his head hung down..do we think after saying 'Big.Big solly' to the pick-up driver & some form of donation to Buddha he'll be back driving within a week..??
Re: Minivan and bus accidents
I too feel sick looking at this i am traveling up to Surin Province on a night bus tonight as their is no day service direct from Hua Hin.
Maybe the authority's here should think about Tachometers that record speed and driving hours and speed limiters, the Thais would just compleatly ignore driving hours so it could be a good revinue for the police.

Re: Minivan and bus accidents
I just watched the video of the white pickup in the fast lane blocking the big truck.
That truck driver must have been pretty mad from being behind the pickup for so long.
Then the pickup driver did not have the sense to stay behind the truck. I guess big egos
and such do not make a good day of driving. That is why I do some praying when I ride the mini
buses from HH to BKK and return. Thanks Gerard and Big Boy for the video.

Police will seek an arrest warrant for the driver of a double-deck school bus which crashed in Prachin Buri on Thursday killing 13 pupils and three adults after he fled the horrific accident scene.

Shoot the barsteward for "resisting arrest".

If he was not guilty, why run away? There should be an automatic 10 year goal term for this BS, added to any other penalty he MAY get!

Re: Minivan and bus accidents
The bus company should take the blame for anything contributing to the accident whether it is the drivers credentials or his/her state or any malfunction of the vehicle. Suspend their business operation for a start but it is probably a company owned by a wealthy hi-so

Bus driver in deadly crash charged with reckless driver
Police on Tuesday charged the driver of the ill-fated bus packed with students that crashed into an 18-wheel truck last month, killing 16 passengers and injuring many others. The charge is reckless driving leading to death and injury to others.
Police quoted Sompong Saebe, 48, who surrendered to police on Monday, as claiming that he did not flee after the accident but suffered injuries and consulted a doctor for chest pain. He helped some injured students before going to see doctor, he said.
The suspect is currently detained in a Kabin Buri Provincial Court detention cell and police have objected to bail on the grounds that he is a flight risk.
After recovering from the chest pain, Sompong said he decided to surrender to police to fight the charges against him. He also insisted that the accident resulted from the brake malfunction, not reckless driving. He said that he would also be ordained as monk after the court case is completed to make merit for the deceased victims.

And that will be the last we hear anything about this.He said that he would also be ordained as monk after the court case is completed to make merit for the deceased victims.

I tell you what: If it was my kid involved he would need more than a shaved head and a saffron gown to escape! I would bankrupt myself in paying to have him "removed".

Very easy to say that the brakes "failed". I wonder if the "failure" had anything to do with overheating due to the way he was driving?

Re: Minivan and bus accidents
And after tha sickening school bus accident we now have 5 fatalities plus elephants involved. OK - it's maybe a bit more understandable for a driver to hit animals which stray across a road - and I do say ''maybe' - bearing in mind the size and usual speed of an elephant.
But what sticks out for me in the report I read on another site about this accident is the way the emphasis was on the care of an injured elephant rather than the care of injured passengers. So as long as the elephants are taken care of nothing else really matters.
We are never going to change the Thai mentality.

This says it all:
While rescue workers were using heavy machines to remove the injured victims from the wrecked vehicle, a six-wheel truck slowed down to watch the rescue and a tailing Toyota Vigo pickup ran into its rear. The pickup truck driver was instantly killed and three others wounded.
