Okay, let's try this without google for now: the easy one is Mr Hitchcock, no. 3.

No. 1 looks as though he might be black?

No. 4 looks like Robin Williams holding his breath under water and about to explode.

Is No.2 Lincoln?

If not, is it Disraeli?

Or Gregory Peck? :)

I did the above without google, but having checked for the others, now know its Abe.

No.1 is John Dillinger.

(oops sorry, edited this without realising 2 further posts had been made - further edits for spelling)

It doesn't take too long to find them on google, but it's worth waiting to see if anyone can identify them without cheating! I would say that no. 2 is more familiar unshaven...

Don't forget, SM leans towards the movies sometimes. #4 may be Marlon Brando. #3 probably Hitchcock. #2 Lincoln or Walter Brennan? #1 Jimi Hendrix? Pete

To summarise,

No. 1 Dillinger
No. 2 Lincoln
No. 3 Hitchcock
And no. 4, with google's help, is Isaac Newton! Still deep in thought apparently... (EDIT: unless he died on the toilet)

Right, moving on, I went here a while back - it was cold and overcast and therefore quite empty.

Although, funnily enough, there was a school-party of Thai kids visiting at the same time.

It has an interesting history, with one important link to English history and is also well-known for a particular tourist attraction, although tradition at this particular site.

As a kid, I loved it, expecially the fact that its ramparts are almost complete, meaning I could charge around to my hearts content. It was nice to go back(photos are mine).

Which castle is it and the historical and tourist links are?

From memory, it looks a bit like Warwick castle? Am I close?

So now we know where you went for your childhood holidays, caller!

Carisbrooke Castle, Isle of Wight - Charles I was held there before his execution.

I don't know why, but I still find English castles much more interesting than Buddhist temples!

Well I guess I wasn't the only one!?

Yup, got it in one (sorry Siani), those visits kicked off an interest in historic places that remains.

I thought this would get 24 hours at least - there's a lot of castles to choose from!

And the tourist thing is the Donkey-wheel driven well!

Oddly, wickis site is far more informative than the official English Heritage site (they look after the Castle).

Nah, we had family in Faversham and we used to go to Whitstable and Tankerton on the Kent coast.

But in the 90s I had a girlfriend whose mother lived on the Isle of Wight, and visited the castle a couple of times.
I do like castles, as a teenager we lived not far from Leeds Castle (bit fancy for me) Bodiam and Hastings and, of course, Battle Abbey, and as an adult I lived for a few years directly below Dover Castle.
All fascinating places to visit and learn about and mostly built in that 1070-1300 period.

Bodiam was a good day out for me - picture postcard on the outside and not a lot in the middle, a country pub lunch followed by a trip to Batemans - home of Kipling, then on to my sisters who lived in the area. Nice days.

OK, lets try something much harder - my photo again.

Above a North Country town, it has 'local' history and known as a castle, but really more a home at first. I was staying in a hall next to it:
