No to both!

More inland than Chester and South of Durham.

Never made it to uni DM, I just about finished school! Although my art teacher was keen for me to apply for Goldsmiths, others took a different view - thats how I ended up in the civil service, after 1st serving a year on the outside.

Nope. Like I said, a castle in name only - lovely views.

Actually, I think this one is a pretty crap task really. I got intrigued as I was staying next to it and it was all locked up and out of bounds, plus the dominating position over the town it fails to guard - not that its worth guarding IMHO, albeit a popular tourist destination.

It was built as a private home, then became a school.

^^  It's the tram shelter clock that I was trying to identify after I'd exhausted castles with square corner towers. If only I'd known it was a tram shelter...

Well done RZR - curious to know how you found it - or do you know it?

And the photo was meant to be a sort of clue, if anyone knew the clock!

And this is an interesting article about the place from 2006, from the same website -

I stayed at Riber Hall which adjoins the castle and is recommended:

No, didn't know it.
Just all down to dogged detective work, following the clues etc

The clock was of no help at all

Right! sticking with the theme, here are three castles. One is in England, one in Wales & one in Scotland (in no particular order  )

Name them & for the bonus point, despite being hundreds of miles apart, what connects all three???

Clues can & may be added when or if required, but being that your such a clever lot of Charlie's, i doubt you'll need them

Castle 2 looks like an 'iron ring' castle of Wales
Conway?
