Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health confirmed on Monday 51 new coronavirus cases as the government considers shutting down the country to halt the spread of the disease.

The 51 new cases bring the total number of confirmed cases to 2,220.

There were 3 more casualties bringing the death toll up to 26.

119 more people have recovered from the disease bringing the total number of recovered to 793 patients.

The majority of cases were still concentrated in Bangkok but the drop in new cases means that Thai people were cooperating with government measures and we want to thank them, said government spokesman Dr Thaweesin Visanuyothin.

Dr Thaweesin also revealed that of the 51 new cases, 13 were healthcare practitioners on the frontlines of the fight against the coronavirus. He said that this was one of the most at-risk groups.

Government shutdown

It is understood by Thai Enquirer that the government is currently considering various lockdown measures as the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread throughout the country.

The Prayut administration imposed a nationwide curfew starting last Friday from 10 pm – 4 am as well as closing the country’s air space from Thursday evening until Monday evening.

Among the suggested measures being deliberated by the cabinet is a total shut down of all provinces as well as a 24-hour curfew for a fortnight. In such a scenario, provincial governments will be responsible for supplying citizens with basic necessities, sources inside the ruling party said.

Unless the idiots in charge know of an impending avalanche of new cases it's statements like that that will trigger panic buying. :banghead: :banghead:

If they impose 24 hour lockdown how the hell can people get food? If they open for an hour a day for shopping groceries they will either create chaos, panic buying and huge crowds for 1 hour which imo could cause Covid 19 to spread more! I really hope the consider something less than 24 hrs lockdown.

Last I heard the 24 hr. lock down will take place from the 11th through the 15th. Songkran. There's always a possibility that the dear leader will change his mind. Maybe.

From the article and other articles I've seen it will be a strict 24hr lockdown, no 1 hour for shopping!

In such a scenario, provincial governments will be responsible for supplying citizens with basic necessities, sources inside the ruling party said.

Please quote sources when you post these claims, in these uncertain times "last I heard" is a unsubstantiated rumour and is contrary to the Emergency measures by spreading gossip and rumour

In my opinion, these lockdowns worldwide are unrealistic. I've a feeling that the politicians and leaders that are making them have no idea about the practicalities of normal people's lives.
I see people being hounded out of parks and public places for just sitting there by themselves, what does that achieve?
The realities of modern city centre living is that large numbers of people are living in very close proximity in properties that have been subdivided into rented rooms or studio apartments and that is where you're more likely to catch an infectious disease, not sat in the park.

A govt. spokesman has just posted, in Thai, that there will be no 24 hr. lock down, just a continuation of the 10-4 curfew.

Ministry of Commerce confirmed that no 24-hour curfew threat threatens anyone to share documents. Heavy penalties!

A spokesman for the OECC confirmed the 24-hour curfew has not yet been announced. Other measures do not have to be threatening! Share data, punishable

On 6 April, Dr. Taweesil Witsanuayotin, a spokesman for the Ministry of Education, clarified the case of sharing the government documents for Khud-19. Announced a 24-hour curfew on April 10 that confirms that the 24-hour curfew has not been announced in any way We just announced 6 hours. Everyone still wants to adjust. Take time to take care of yourself If possible, the number of new infections decreases. Other measures are not needed at all, but if this number continues to increase, according to the Ministry of Health's report. Shows that the existing measures are not enough. Have to adjust, but today still doesn't.

To be fair, Cha-cha-cha said on Friday, or maybe Saturday, that a 24 hr curfew would not happen as he said that it's impractical. I'm sure the confusion has come from a memo to governors to prepare food banks and quarantine facilities.
Chinese whispers rule!

Mods...can we speculate or post an opinion on what will or will not happen as Songkran approaches? If not please remove my post forthwith.

I think there may well be a total lockdown for a few days during Songkran. No source or rumour, just an opinion.
