No 24-hour curfew if people cooperate.

There's the rub. I don't know how well "cooperate" is defined.

Not sure why he is in their ICU but not on a ventilator, you can be sure that he was in a very well equiped single pt room and if he just needs added O2 that could be given there.

Well he is after all the Prime Minister, so a very important person in terms of Government hierarchy- not trying to infer that other people are not important but he’s obviously been classified as at risk and precautionary measures taken just in case. It doesn’t matter what your political persuasion is, this would be standard practice in virtually every country in the world.

GOV’T DISMISSES FEAR OF 24-HOUR CURFEW AFTER HINTING AT 24-HOUR CURFEW
The Thai government on Monday categorically dismissed rumors that a 24-hour curfew would shortly be imposed nationwide from the upcoming Friday, compared to the six-hour curfew currently.

Thaveesilp Wisanuyothin, spokesman of the government-run Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), dismissed the 24-hour curfew rumors widely circulated in social media. A daily curfew between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. were imposed from April 2.

Thaveesilp commented such unconfirmed hearsay may have stemmed from a written directive recently sent from the Ministry of Interior’s Permanent Secretary Chatchai Phromlert to all provincial governors calling for “preparations to upgrade the measures and operations” against the COVID-19 pandemic at local level throughout the country.

Many people may have been misled or misinterpreted the message as a step to be promptly taken in advent of curfew around the clock, according to the CCSA spokesman.

Thailand has reported 51 new cases on Monday. Given the number of cases reported on daily basis by the Ministry of Public Health, no such thing as a 24-hour curfew will be declared anytime soon, according to the CCSA spokesman.

Thaveesilp commented such unconfirmed rumors have merely sent panics and that those who might share untruthful, misleading content such as the 24-hour curfew could possibly be faced with severe legal penalties under current emergency rule.

Thailand’s government confirmed, on Tuesday, 38 more coronavirus infections bringing the total number of infections inside the country to 2,258.

It is the lowest tally in two weeks, lower than Monday’s tally of 51.

There was also one more fatality from the disease bringing the death toll up to 27.

31 more patients have recovered from the virus bringing the number of patients recovered to 824 patients.

1,408 people are still being treated in hospital for the disease.

“We have done this, the reason that the number is lowering is because we have taken responsibility,” said government spokesman Dr Thaweesin Visanuyothin. “That is a reason to be satisfied but we must keep going.”

Here is one of many messages I am seeing around social media at the moment.

I didn’t vote for him, I always thought he was a crossed eyed two legged twat, but I admit I misjudged him and think he’s doing a good job under the circumstances. Please get well Boris I would vote for you now I’ve changed my opinion of you

Now don't get me wrong, I wish him well and hope for a full recovery, but my views have not changed in that his early lack of decisive action when we saw what was happening in Europe has cost the UK dearly.

VIGILANTE FACEBOOK PAGE SHAMES, THREATENS TO SHOOT ‘SHIT TOURISTS’
A Facebook page with more than half a million followers threatened to harm “shit tourists” who venture outside on Phuket island during the coronavirus outbreak.

In a series of posts starting Monday, Spotlight Thailand published photos of tourists partying and sightseeing Phuket to shame them, and suggested to its followers that they should shoot at any tourists flouting the social distancing measure with slingshots.

“Get out from my country of you can not stay home,” one post says in broken English, accompanied by the page admins holding slingshots. “Shit tourist.”

In response, many people posted photos of themselves with slingshots in the comments section.

Another post, this time showing a group of foreigners at Patong Beach, goes with the caption, “They’re at Patong almost every day. When will they stop? We’re going to starve to death,” then in English, “When I see you again it become to big problem for you #shit tourist get out of my country.”

Yet another post shows foreigners driving around in an orange jeep. The post berates the farangs for “still having fun on everyone’s misery,” along with the same English caption as the previous post.

The posts have been liked in the thousands and shared from 80 to 225 times each. Spotlight Thailand page has a following of more than 597,000.

Most of the comments condemn Caucasian tourists for coming outside during the outbreak and allegedly putting Thai people at the risk of infection.

“This makes me pity myself and my eight employees. We’ve been indoors since March 18, none of us going outside except to get supplies for the nine of us at Makro. We run a massage shop at Patong,” user Panisara Kingkaew wrote. “Meanwhile the tourists are having fun.”

“You guys have a heart filled with bitterness and envy. It must suck to need something that you hate so much (tourists),” commented user Alec Cela.

The outpouring of hatred and suspicion against Westerners in some parts of Thailand came weeks after the country’s top health official, Anutin Charnvirakul, publicly threatened to kick out “goddamn farangs” for not wearing facemasks.

Be careful people ... violence may follow.

Will they shoot the immigration authorities for putting hundreds of people in danger on a daily basis.
I'm not in Phuket so can't really comment on the situation there. However, if tourists are flouting the rules by 'having fun' on the beach and ignoring the basics then they should be taken to task.

Here in Hua Hin, I notice that most 'foreigners' are following the guidelines. The biggest culprits are the locals "I have a mask on so I'm protected". Most (not all) ignoring the two main preventatives - washing hands and keeping social distancing.

Maybe someone should post pictures on that facebook account showing how Thais are also flouting the rules. What goes for one goes for the other.

It can develop into a dangerous situation. Asians being attacked in Europe and the States (especially as Trump doubled down on blaming China and calling it the Chinese Virus)
