I don’t disagree with the the principle, but the point I was trying to make is that in the UK you can get the quality at a reasonable price - here you can’t.Suua wrote: ↑Thu May 14, 2020 7:21 amSorry Dannie, that's the classic mistake that Thais typically make.Dannie Boy wrote: ↑Thu May 14, 2020 6:51 amThat’s a lot easier to practice when you’re living in the UK rather than Thailand - it’s often a case of choosing between a cheap Chinese import or a very expensive western import (2-3 times what you have to pay).
The Chinese crap is the expensive one as you always have to buy another one not long after the first one fails.
The western import is the cheap one as you invariably buy it once only....what you describe is called a false economy.![]()

Re: Buying online from Lazada
Well my question would be how to know what is from China and what's not?
I try to order only items which says Thailand or Bangkok on Lazada, but many of those items are from China. VERY rarely the merchant will write the land of origin in the description.
And most things are unfortunately made in China now.

I agree it's easier and more affordable in the UK to not get Chinese tat, but its not impossible in Thailand either.
Just depends if the moral compass is stronger than the purse strings. I doubt this for most folk. China will continue to be fed for a long while yet and all down to saving a few quid on purchases. It's a shame.
Folk in the UK aren't gonna change anytime soon either, tbf. They like their cheap tat. Or our Tiktok (Chinese) obsessed next generation.

In regards to the somewhat tricky prospect of finding stuff not made in China, electronics being the trickiest, Google is your friend.huahin4ever wrote: ↑Thu May 14, 2020 7:46 am Well my question would be how to know what is from China and what's not?

In my post which sparked this latest debate, it was Google that directed me to a Western product that was 100% Chinese, except the name. However, Mrs BB was happy, so I'm happy.

I would love to use Amazon or Ebay more for purchases as the quality and price of merch is much better than the junk you're peddled here. Those obscene shipping charges are the killer though, which is why China rules on this side of the planet.

Agree with all of you....but I sincerely....very sincerely, hope the world has learned a lesson (again) and takes bold measures to make sure it has options all over the planet. A lot healthier for everyone.

I've just looked back through this thread and there doesn't seem to be too many complaints up until early this month after a certain world leader started pointing the finger at Chi-nahh and the knee jerking began.

No need for complaints....that was back in January when it was revealed they'd tried to cover it up....again.

Nothing to do with Trump.

I think it's quite obvious to most (well I thought it was) that we should be working towards lessening China's economic might. The fact that China profited massively from shipping PPE to the world after starting a deadly virus says it all.

Re: Buying online from Lazada
Some people have been complaining about hidden delivery charges with Lazada. Personally, I've had no problems. However, I thought I'd post this regarding another online market.
I've been looking for a particular bird cage and I found the one I wanted on Ubuy.th. Proceeded to order it. The price was just over 7,000 baht with a 3 week delivery. All well and good until I came to the check-out. Normal delivery in excess of 18,000 baht and express delivery 23,000+ baht. Not including the price of the cage!
Needless to say, I didn't complete the transaction.

Re: Buying online from Lazada
I just compared prices on this site. I looked at an identical bicycle lock I just bought on Laz. Nearly 500baht dearer and that's before any shipping charges. Needless to say I won't be using Ubuy soon.HHTel wrote: ↑Sat May 16, 2020 1:55 pm Some people have been complaining about hidden delivery charges with Lazada. Personally, I've had no problems. Our dogs are well overdue a haircut, and their clippers are knackered. So time to but a cheap set of hair clippers. Daughter-in-law chose the set she wanted:
I went through to the payment page page, and this is what is shown:
Delivery price has increased by 25฿. I've suspected this has been happening for a while, but if you go back to check, the initial page has updated to 45฿.
I have suspected this has been happening for a while, but the first time I remembered to record it step by step.

I ordered something yesterday and the shipping was free and confirmed by email once the order had been placed.
