The first reason that our vaccine strategy is correct is that our national public health program has done a remarkable job containing the coronavirus pandemic. If one can choose one place to be during the Covid-10 pandemic, many people would choose to be in Thailand. That is because of the lower number of infections, the low mortality rate, and a population that has embraced the advise of public health officials........

Well what I posted is 'Opinion' from the Thai Enquirer, and what you've posted is also an 'Opinion' from the Thai Enquirer.

You can't say "The Thai Enquirer disagrees" when both 'Opinions' are published in that news source.

You got me! I didn't pay a lot of attention to the article but, as you say, he is the Editor-in-Chief so speaks for the paper. However, it's still an opinion from an individual who happens to have a news 'paper' in his portfolio.

You seem to be implying the owner wrote the article, so who is the owner?

Anyway a leading physician from Malaysia wrote an article for this mornings BP and stated its imperitve for the regions future to get everyone vaccinated ASAP to restore confidence in the region, or words to thar affect. Either way, it was in complete contrast to the approach supported by the Thai physician.

Sinovac vaccine for 22 provinces
The government plans to distribute 800,000 doses of Sinovac's Covid-19 vaccine to 22 provinces in April.

The provinces are divided into three groups.

The first group will receive a supply of the vaccine, known as CoronaVac, to contain the pandemic. This group consists of six provinces where clusters have been reported including Samut Sakhon, Bangkok, Tak (Mae Sot), Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan and Nonthaburi.

The second group consists of eight tourist provinces: Chon Buri, Rayong, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Krabi, Phangnga, Surat Thani (Koh Samui) and Phuket. The vaccine will be given to them to help revive economies heavily hit by the pandemic.

The last group consists of eight border provinces: Songkhla, Sa Kaeo, Chiang Rai, Mukdahan, Narathiwat, Ranong, Nong Khai and Chanthaburi. The vaccine is expected to help rehabilitate their economies.

So Prachuap didn't even make the list. The bigwigs have had their AZ jab, now the plebs can have the Chinese one.

How will they decide who gets them?

Samut Sakhon has an official population of 60k, but who really knows and that won't include 1000's of immigrants. The population of Samut Prakan in 2019 was 1.345 million!

Not at all. The opinion was from the Editor-in-Chief and I guess that he has carte blanche on what he can print. He may well be the owner. I don't know.

800,000 shared by 22 provinces. Even if split equally, it's only 36,000 per province. Not a lot!

Meanwhile, the UK with a similar population, has vaccinated close to 30 million! There may be a hiccup there in the short term because of politicking.

0.1% have their first dose in Thailand. Disgraceful!

Even in our own area we're behind Laos, Cambodia, even Myanmar!! Nobody is worse than Thailand in SE.

We're going to see private organizations here offering vaccinations in the not too distance future. I think many expat/retirees will use those sources, and perhaps have a selection of vaccine manufacturers.
Apologies, I've just dipped into this thread.

Are vaccinations mandatory for flying out of Thailand?

As I'm assuming I can't get a private jab anyway, so if they are that would suit me!

I believe the original article was about the proposal that airlines might make it a condition of travel, that travelers have been vaccinated - this hasn’t as yet been agreed, but it’s a distinct possibility!!

No, they're not. Vaccinations are not mandatory anywhere in the world for any purposes, as far as I'm aware.

Not yet for Covid-19. But, for example, yellow fever vaccination is required for some travel.
