Isn't the new M81 meant to be an alternative route now? Has anyone tried it? Time wise much difference? (I'm not over there at the moment, in Aus)

M81 is the new motorway to Kanchanaburi, it doesn't go anywhere Hua Hin. viewtopic.php?t=42824

Yes but it does connect back to the Hua Hin route and offers an alternative to Rama II.
