Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
with all the sad news of the Covid virus, did you hear of the Alton Illinois
mayor's wife getting arrested for being at a party at a tavern. Must have been a big loss of
face for the Mayor, when his wife did not listen to his advice.

I am so sorrypharvey wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 2:38 am Shitty news tonight where news given of 2 friends passing within an hour of each other. One in his early 60's with a heart condition, but we were exchanging jokes via Email and WhatsApp this very morning.... Rushed into hospital lunchtime and died within hours.
Another in his mid 40's with no underlying symptoms - had been suffering for a few days and hospitalised, but again - very quick end which nobody was expecting - devastating news.
Brings everything very close to home.....![]()

Sorry for your loss pharvey.

Some of the ones I know are more afraid of the police and being fined than the virus itself - and fear of that is keeping them in.dtaai-maai wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 12:12 amYou've answered your own question, surely?oakdale160 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 11:28 pm Trying to understand why the Thais I know are pretty casual about the virus, when the deaths are now approx 30
Thats in a country where 60-70 traffic accidents deaths every day is accepted as normal. If the Thai general public are not bothered about that level of road deaths daily, why would 30 virus deaths over the last couple of months be a matter of concern?
Having said that, those Thais I'm still in touch with are taking it very seriously.

There is a heart wrenching video in this link from a nurse in the US who has just quit her job at a hospital in Illinois.
She said that none of the nurses had masks to wear. She had her own N95 mask but was not allowed to use it when she was assigned to a Covid-19 patient.

The stats from Italy are interesting. All the measured factors seem to be lessening. It looks as if they are on the downside of the curve. Look at the stats on Worldmentor. Numbers of deaths is declining.

Thailand’s government said on Thursday that it had discovered 54 more coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of cases to 2423.
The government said that 2 more people have died from the disease bringing the death toll to 32 including a French national.
52 more people have recovered from the virus bringing the total number of people discharged from hospitals to 940.
“We have to be cautious about how we repatriate our citizens,” said government spokesman Dr Thaweesin Visanuyothin. “There are still cases of Thais returning to the country and carrying the disease.”

Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News
What claptrap! The government defended its low testing numbers by saying that that mass testing was “very expensive.”
“Testing everyone is expensive, we can focus test at-risk groups and still find the cases,” said government spokesman Dr Thaweesin Visanuyothin.
I notice that since I reported a surge in tests by around 46,000 in 24 hours,(obviously untrue), the number (71,860) has not moved since. Hence the figures are pure hogwash.

I was going to put the following in the Trump thread for obvious reasons.
A report out today on hydroxychloroquine:
https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/c ... 19-treatmeIdentified potential adverse effects include:
-Cardiac arrhythmias
-Hypoglycemia
-Neuropsychiatric effects, such as agitation, confusion, hallucinations and paranoia
-Interactions with other drugs
-Metabolic variability (some people metabolize chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine poorly and a small percentage metabolize them rapidly, which affects the response to treatment)
-Overdose (chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are highly toxic in overdose and can cause seizures, coma and cardiac arrest)
-Drug shortages (patients with autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and other chronic diseases, who take hydroxychloroquine to treat these conditions could have problems accessing this drug)
The review summarizes the poor quality of evidence suggesting that these treatments might not be beneficial in patients with COVID-19 and cautions that it is possible that these treatments could worsen the disease.
Dr Juurlink further added, "Despite optimism (in some, even enthusiasm) for the potential of chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine in the treatment of COVID-19, little consideration has been given to the possibility that the drugs might negatively influence the course of disease. This is why we need a better evidence base before routinely using these drugs to treat patients with COVID-19."

HHTel I think you posted a link the other day as to why Trump was so keen on this drug as he and a lot of his cohorts have vested interests in the company that manufactures the drug. Go figure huh?HHTel wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 2:13 pm Well done, BB.
