Bangkok bans alcohol sales
The Thai capital has banned all sales of alcohol for 10 days to try to curb partying during Songkran, also known as the Buddhist New Year.

The festival happens every year between 13 and 15 April. It was traditionally marked by pouring water over statues of the Buddha.

But the festival has since turned into the world's biggest water fight. Throwing water is meant to wash away bad luck from the previous year.

I expect other provinces to follow suite

Yep, now that's irony!

Indians worried over export of unproven 'corona drug'
Geeta Pandey

Editor, women and social affairs India

India's decision to export a drug that US President Donald Trump has touted as a possible cure for Covid-19 has worried many at home who take it for other ailments.

Hydroxychloroquine (commonly known as HCQ) is an affordable anti-malarial drug. There is no proof that it's effective in treating Covid-19, but its routinely prescribed for autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.

"It keeps my limbs functional," Barnali Mitra, who has been taking it daily for the last 17 years for lupus, said in a phone interview.

But Mitra is now struggling to find it in chemist stores. The same is true in the US, where Mr Trump's endorsement of the drug has led to a shortage in supply.

India is one of the world's largest manufacturers of HCQ, but it has severely restricted the drug's sale amid reports of people self-medicating.

HHTel I think you posted a link the other day as to why Trump was so keen on this drug as he and a lot of his cohorts have vested interests in the company that manufactures the drug. Go figure huh?

Do you have proof of this statement?

Staggering that any public figure official(yet alone the Supreme Commander) is even allowed to comment on what is in effect a commercial product.

Shouldn't be allowed to comment on any such product at any time, and especially not now. He should just refer any specific questions to his medical advisers

Correct, I would rather prefer to hear what Dr Fauci has to say on the drug rather than some two bit charlatan hyping up the drug for his Wall Street hedge fund buddies.

Did an Issan woman get coronavirus for a second time?

https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/issa ... econd-time

A 38 year old woman from Thailand’s northeastern Chaiyaphum province in the Issan region appears to have contracted the Covid-19 coronavirus for a second time, after she was ‘cured’ of the virus in Bangkok in the middle of March.

The woman, who in March had only recently returned from overseas, was found to be infected with the virus and was admitted to Phyathai 2 Hospital in Bangkok. She apparently made a full recovery and was discharged, and soon returned to her hometown.

But somewhere around April 3-5, she became sick again and went for a test. The result showed that her throat was infected with Covid-19.

A similar case involved a 42 year old construction worker who returned from Qatar on April 2.

Both cases are now under treatment in local hospitals, and authorities are trying to trace people who might have been in close contact with them. Doctors in New York now believe its possible for the virus to lie dormant in patients who’ve been treated

A report yesterday showed that Chaiyaphum currently has 109 Covid-19 patients. 8 were new cases. The local government has asked its residents to strictly follow curfew directives to limit the spread of the virus.

Testing remains the core of identifying patients with Covid-19 but there have been cases of false positives that may lead to apparent re-infections.

It raises the question on how accurate the tests are. 'false positives' and 'false negatives'

HaHa. The lock down of Pattaya turned into one huge cock-up.
Massive queues amidst ignorance of the police not understanding what ID and documents were required,
Cranes were brought in to remove the concrete barriers to allow the traffic to flow freely!
PR Pattaya City reported on Facebook that the five checkpoints stopping traffic were reopened and a meeting was hurriedly arranged chaired by Pattaya mayor Sontaya Khunpluem and Bang Lamung District chief Amnat Charoensri.

77kaoded said it was not just the traffic - each of the five checkpoints were struggling to interpret what ID was necessary to move in and out of the city.

This created horrendous delays.

Concrete barriers blocking traffic had to be removed to allow the flow to continue.

South Korea reported on Friday that 91 recovered coronavirus patients have tested positive for the disease again, raising questions over health experts' understanding of the pandemic.

The prospect of people being re-infected with the virus is of international concern, as many countries are hoping that infected populations will develop sufficient immunity to prevent a resurgence of the pandemic.

The reports have also prompted fears the virus may remain active in patients for much longer than was previously thought.

There are reports from other countries about a second infection.

I doubt that these people are actually being re-infected. The odds of that just don't stack up. My guess is that the virus changes to a dormant state and 'hides' only to come out to play later!

This appears to be a clever virus with characteristics never seen before. This puts a different slant on results of up and coming 'anti-body' tests. There was a hope that large swathes of the population would gain some immunity.
