China's new coronavirus cases rise to near six-week high
China reported the highest number of new daily coronavirus cases in nearly six weeks, driven by a rise in infected travellers arriving from overseas and underscoring challenges Beijing faces in preventing a second wave of COVID-19.
A total of 108 new coronavirus cases were reported on Sunday, up from 99 a day earlier and marking the highest number of cases since 143 cases were reported on March 5.
Almost all the new cases in China are being imported. It underlines the need to have strict travel restrictions even after a country has brought their domestic situation under control.

Some workers in Spain are preparing to return to their jobs as lockdown restrictions are relaxed.
It comes after the country reported its lowest daily growth in confirmed coronavirus infections in three weeks.
Health officials said there were 4,167 confirmed new cases and 619 deaths since Saturday.
And Thailand reporting 33 yesterday and 38 today is reason to enforce an extended lockdown and ban the sale of alcohol nationwide!
They ought to replace the lottery with a 'Hunt the Virus' competition.
There is no valid reason why restrictions here can't be relaxed (a lot) while maintaining strict border controls. Let people get back to work to support their families. The low spread here is more about stopping the spread from outside rather than measures taken domestically. As many have seen, hygiene and social distancing is generally not being taken seriously. If that was a main factor, then the numbers here would have skyrocketed.
Just my opinion!

Gov’t Says Pandemic Isn’t ‘Disaster,’ Denying Funds to Local Agencies
https://www.khaosodenglish.com/politics ... -agencies/
BANGKOK — Local administration organizations are struggling to secure coronavirus relief funds from the government after the Ministry of Interior Affairs refused to categorize the epidemic as a disaster, an opposition MP said Friday.
Pheu Thai MP Chiya Promma said the ministry’s interpretation of the law is taking away the opportunity for local administrators to disburse the budget from the central government and use it to fight the COVID-19 outbreak in their areas effectively.
“The finance ministry’s regulation on disaster relief funds defined disaster as a hazard caused by disease transmission among humans, while the World Health Organization also declared COVID-19 as a pandemic,” Chiya said.
He continued, “But the interior affairs ministry’s interpretation barred them from the fund. The government doesn’t want them to be equipped in the fight against the epidemic.”
The decision meant local authorities across the country, who are shouldering an increasing responsibility to contain the virus, do not have access to the government’s central budget.
Chiya, who also chairs the House Committee of Budget Administration and Follow-up, said the interior ministry claimed that the Ministry of Public Health has not yet formally declared the coronavirus as an “epidemic,” thus it is not considered as a public disaster.
He said the government’s reluctance might have resulted from its attempt to keep the central budget within its own hands.
“I ask the Ministry of Interior to promptly reconsider this,” Chiya said.
A similar confrontation between the central government and local officials played out in 2018, when the government refused to recognize a nationwide outbreak of rabies as a “disaster.” The refusal subsequently barred many areas from an access to rabies vaccines stockpiled by the central health authority.

Phuket
According to government spokesman Dr Thaweesin Visanuyothin, the number of coronavirus cases in the resort island of Phuket was worrying. The disease started with one case, found on the 26 of January, and has skyrocketed to 176 cases as of Monday.
The island has shut down its borders and imposed a 24-hour quarantine to stop the number of cases spiking further and spreading the disease.
Dr Thaweesin said that strict government measures are slowing the disease and that the measures must continue.

April 6th - 51 cases (a reduction of 50% over the previous day)
April 7th - 38 cases (a reduction of 25.5%)
April 8th - 60 cases (an increase of 36%)
April 9th - 54 cases (a reduction of 10%)
April 10th - 50 cases (a reduction of 7.5%)
April 11th - 45 cases (a reduction of 10%)
April 12th - 33 cases (a reduction of 27%)
April 13th - 28 cases (a reduction of 15.2%)
Wake up Cha-cha-cha!
It is the lowest total in over three weeks, with the number of infections in the country decreasing since the government introduced a nationwide social isolation policy.
The evidence does not give that much weight. It's been decreasing as a result of border closing.
But if the government want to claim that to be the case, then so be it.

Nope. Quite the opposite. Before this lock down you'd hear at least a couple daily on their way to another road accident. I haven't heard one for a long time.

It would be interesting to compare the road fatalities during the “7 deadly days” this Songkran compared to last year

I've said this before. This virus has saved many more lives than it's taken. Road fatalities are often down in single figures on a daily basis.
Irony!

Actually, generally speaking, the '7 most dangerous days' usually appear to be the '7 safest days'. Numbers are often less than on normal days.
