Only a friendly, but a much improved performance by Hua Hin, who for the first time during pre-season friendlies looked capable in front of goal.
The word friendly could have been a mistake. Today's opposition were very physical - something which was made obvious early on, when they actually rugby tackled (2 arms aeound the hips) one of our youngsters.
Biggest surprise for me today was to see 30 players warming up for us - we're supposed to be on a tight budget with 11 paid professionals and 11 academy players. Have we had a windfall, or were the additional 8 freebie trialists.
The guy we had at centre forward did make a difference (coloured guy with white hair). We saw him in another friendly, but he was trying far too hard, trying to impress. His play was much more team orientated today, and gave the side a set of teeth.
I think it was either Roland or Ali G who scored the winner - not sure which.
I'm starting to feel happier that we can manage a mid-table place this season.

Vana Nava Hua Hin City 0 - 2 Samut Sakorn
Another pre-season friendly, this time against last season's champions.
I thought the new manager's influence was starting to tell with a lot of tight passing, and Hua Hin retained most of the possession during the first half.
ALL of the first half chances (and there were a few) fell to Hua Hin, despite going in a goal down at half time. The opening goal can only be described as a goalkeeping blunder, and I guess Shota will have nightmares about it. Ali G was superb again in the first half, playing as the playmaker.
Hua Hin went off the boil a bit in the second half with quite a few substitutions disrupting their flow. However, they still looked more likely to score. The second goal, when it came, was very well taken and gave Shota little chance.
Overall, a decent performance, but we're still lacking that killer punch in front of goal.

Re: Vana Nava Hua Hin City FC 2016
Vana Nava Hua Hin City 1 - 2 Chumphon
Not a scoreline that you should worry about too much. This game was played as 3 x 40 minutes halves (TIT), and at no time did Hua Hin play anything like their first 11. The goals were not conceded until the last 15 minutes of the 3rd half, when we were playing with a lot of kids.
Chumphon came out of the blocks strongest, but Hua Hin soon settled.
After 2 halves the score was still even, with all of the chances having still fallen to Hua Hin. It could easily have been 4 - 0 at this point with some more clinical finishing by Hua Hin.
Patay put us a goal up early in the 3rd half, but 2 major defensive errors saw Chumphon steal the honours.
It was nice to see 5 of our champions on the pitch. Kanchit, who received a warm welcome for Chumphon, and Wongsawad, Shota and Yongsak were joined by new signing Nutthapong. Nutthapong's first 2 touches were awful, but then he settled and at times played some magical football. I think he will be an asset, and could be what we need up front.
Breaking News 1 - Hua Hin have been accepted into this season's competition, with conditions - 15 teams failed to make the cut.
Breaking News 2 - Fixtures will be out tomorrow. We will also find out which Regional League we will be playing in.

Time to bump this one.
Vana Nava Hua Hin City kick off this season's campaign with what, on paper seems a weaker opponent in BTU this evening. This kick off has been a long time coming, with 4 previous false starts due to politics at the Thai Football League.
Why not come along and see our local team get their season under way?

Vana Nava Hua Hin City 2 - 1 BTU Utd FC
A great result to start the season!!!
I personally thought BTU were the better side, and if it weren't for (my man of the match) Shota, Hua Hin could easily have had an unthinkable start.
We took the lead through a brilliant lob from Arnon from outside of the penalty area, which left the BTU keeper stranded. Outside of that, I think he only made one stop in the first half with a shot from Camara. BTU were making chance after chance, in fact, it was the first time I'd seen our defence struggle against a team of similar standing.
Early in the second half Wongsawad scored from the penalty spot. I'm hoping the camera shows what happened, because I thought our player hand balled the ball. However, in hindsight, I'm wondering if he was fouled before the hand ball.
As the game progressed, Camara was starting to come to the fore for the wrong reasons. He mouthed off at the ref a few times, which eventually got him booked. Then when defending a BTU corner, he got away with wrestling a BTU player to the ground in the penalty area. A couple of minutes later he committed the foul from which BTU scored a penalty. By the end of the match, I was thinking that he could be a major liability.
Anyway, that's 3 points in the bag, and we can now look forward to hosting Simork - same time, same place next Saturday,

Re: Vana Nava Hua Hin City FC 2016
After several false dawns and six weeks later than expected the regional division 2 season finally kicked off with our home game against BTU Utd.
In the lead up to the season we have already played half the teams in our division in pre-season friendlies. Unless there are some diamonds amongst the five teams we have not played one thing is for sure, this is going to be a very poor league this season. Samut Sakhon and Seemok, two of the best teams last season appear to be nowhere near as strong, although we managed to lose to both in friendlies. IPE Samut Sakhon and Muangkan Utd were very poor and Chumphon were nothing special and we probably fall into this category as well. Had we had half the team we had last season I think we would have been right up there but we haven't and that's all water under the bridge now.
So what of yesterday. BTU were nothing more than a workmanlike side although they did have some players who caught my eye. I thought their number 10 was their best player and a couple of speed merchants in numbers 8 and 18 who caused us a few problems but over the course of the game didn't use their speed enough. As for Hua Hin, for me, it was our best performance I have seen this year. In terms of football we were far the better side. We played at pace, played the ball around nicely but were let down time and time again by losing possession at the critical moment in promising areas. For the first time in my time of watching the team we have a traditional centre forward in "Arouna Kone". He is good in the air, can hold the ball up and is strong but Hua Hin need to learn how to play off him and supply him with the right kind of service. I understand his frustrations yesterday but he needs to curb his complaining. His dissallowed goal showed what he could give us.
Hua Hins first goal was well executed. A long ball up field won by Kone and first time pass by Yongsak to Arnon who finished well, lobbing the keeper. A second came just after half time from a free kick by Wongsawad. Headed on in the box by I think Arnon only for the BTU defender to stop with his arm. Definite penalty which Wongsawad despatched.
Shota made a few good but expected saves and I never really felt we were in danger of getting anything other than 3 points, until the last few minutes that is. A clumsey challenge in the box by Kone gave BTU a life line. They scored with the penalty and we appeared to panic. We should have seen the game out quite comfortably but couldn't keep possession. That needs work.
In the end a deserved 3 points after a decent performance. Next week will be a bit more of a test against Seemok but judging by the annulled league cup result against them I see no reason why we can't win.

Assuming you mean Camara, as far as I am concerned, the jury is still out.Geordie Dancer wrote:For the first time in my time of watching the team we have a traditional centre forward in "Arouna Kone". Yes, he is a traditional centre-forward, but in true Hua Hin City struggles to understand where the goal actually is, and that the ball will travel faster if you actually kick it, instead of fresh air when in front of goal (3 times in the last 2 games he's kicked fresh air when the ball should have been travelling towards the goal

Having said the above, we're used to strikers not knowing where the goal is. I was hoping that they would play him up front with Nutthapong (any idea where he was?) yesterday. I actually believe they could form a good strike partnership.
I was disappointed when he started venting his frustrations at the ref - he's now needlessly 25% of the way to his first suspension. It reminded me too much of last season's twins, constantly arguing with the ref.
Finally, he almost cost us 2 points. not only did he commit a stupid foul to concede the penalty, I was amazed a couple of minutes earlier when he wrestled a BTU player to the ground inside the penalty area in an off the ball incident, and got away with it. If the ref was up to standard, that would have been a second penalty.
I hope somebody can sort Camara out, but I have my doubts - he could turn out to be a loose cannon.
