^ Well going by the UK, "standard salaries" whilst high to most, are not incredible, so a 20% cut is not going to hurt but more of a political statement (being harsh). The majority come from wealthy families and are wealthy themselves. Add to this the "perks" (which will not be part of the 20%) - claims on expenses (housing, transport, subsistence - the list goes on, not to mention lower tax rates).

That said, at least they are denoting and thinking of people which many aren't.

And just as an aside, Captain Tom Moore has raised (as of 18:53 UK) £8,574,488.38 -

With regard to tracing, almost without exception infections have been linked to imports which is why I said that country borders and airspace is a significant factor in containing the virus.
It does appear on the face of it that Thailand have been very lucky but unable to supply any valid reason for that luck.
I've been doing my own observing last 2 or 3 weeks and you're absolutely right about the complete lack of social distancing here.

It's like smouldering tinder, one waft of air in the right direction and suddenly it could be ablaze! As you say they have been bloody lucky to date and I sincerely hope that luck continues but I cringe when I go out for my afternoon walks and observe their behaviour. It's just fashion accessory masks.... and that's it!

I think it's a Thai culture thing, i just don't think they can stay apart, it's just not in their nature.

^ Still comes back to the whole "Tropical Heat" thing or variants not effecting certain people - the latter being the big one IMHO. I realise that this is a "new virus", and I've said in the past we have little or no defence against it. BUT, originating in China, would the Asian world not have more of a defence against it than the western world? Is it really all down to strict lockdowns (again I've made my posts on this), or are Europeans/Americans more susceptible? The west is certainly suffering more...

Apologies for going a little "off subject" guys, but we all need some good and happy news at times rather than the doom and gloom. Yes this story is more geared to the UK (and the quite superb NHS staff and carers), but we can all take massive positives from this IMHO regardless where you are!! This is seriously a wonderful effort.

He plans another "100" - not sure if he means years or laps!! :D Long live the man and his attitude!!

And that's me to bed happy! :D

I've been following him (no, not around his garden!) and his success in raising money is quite remarkable. From an original target of a thousand quid the current figure could never have been predicted.

From Prayut's statement yesterday:
Thailand has around 37 million workers in the informal and formal sectors combined, plus 9 million freelancers and 17 million in the farming sector.
That's 63 million at work! Total population 2020 is 69.7 million.

More than 11 million of kids 14 years and under as of 2018.

They really should make the numbers realistic before spouting them!

One way the gubermint could have more money available is to do like New Zealand; the prime minister and and mp's etc. are taking a 50% pay cut for 8 months.

I'd posted this in covid (news)
It was actually reported as a 20% cut for 6 months. Not that it matters. It should be a lesson for the fat cats here which goes right to the top.

In practical terms what good would that do?

It's called leadership and showing people that even they will make sacrifices. Money wise it's a drop in the ocean.
You remember the phrase, "It's not the gift, it's the thought that counts!"
