"The Masters of Rome" series by Colleen McCullough, would have to be the best that I have found on this subject.

Apologies - Going off on a tangent here.......

Not a challenge, but thought this probably the most apt thread available for it (mods please move if inappropriate). Great history, great photographs.

'If you wish to belch, remember to look up to the ceiling.'
'Do not attack your enemy while he is squatting to defecate.'
'If there is something you do not want people to know, do not tell it to your wife.'
'Say thank you to your host.'
'Don't mount your horse in the hall.'

Without using Google, can anyone tell me when and where these gems of advice were presented?

After first thinking I'd seen something like this in Scotland, all the ones I can find now that look like yours are in Cumbria!

Yes Steve G Cumbria is correct :thumb:

Swinside Stone Circle is one of the three most important stone circles in Cumbria, and consists of 55 stones set in a ninety foot diameter circle. Although the circle is located on private ground, it can easily be viewed from a nearby public footpath.

If you want to read further....i find this amazing

This, by the way, is from the "Book of the Civilised Man", written about 900 years ago.
