I can see the point of the business; seeing as Thais driving always want to park right outside where they want to go, if you are taking the spot outside a business I suppose they see it as you depriving them of potential trade.
I know my partner is very forceful about me not doing this, so it seems to be the way things are done in Thailand.

Fair enough Steve G, but are they that bloody lazy to find a parking place nearby that might require a minutes walking, as suggested earlier in this thread? I certainly do the same as you, but for other reasons, as I don't see myself as "special". I understand the arguments, but it's a bit lame when placed under the microscope. What kind of message is that sending?

What you do and say is quite right for these realities in the environment we find ourselves in, but it's still a bit shakey to say the least on a personal level, but that's just me.

Try asking the owner of the business whose frontage you are blocking if it is OK and tell them how long you are likely to be there .If they object then you know the keys are coming out 5 mins after you tell them it is your right to park there under law .Having had several high street offices here I can attest that the one thing that used to wind me up was people parking right in front of my open door and then walking off at a brisk pace knowing that they had made my daily deliveries and walk in trade a nightmare .Pretty much exclusively farang as it happens .I am not talking about designated public spaces but private ones that I paid rent for .I have been unable to even access my office without moving vehicles on more occasions than I care to remember .Never resorted to scratching cars though .

I had a business once in London, we were right in the middle of a busy shopping area. All day every day we had pi$$ takers trying to park inside our premises. Used to wind me up, I was out of the office on their case before they could shut their engines off, got the usual "I'll only be an hour guv", "how much for 2 hours" blah blah blah, no chance get out of here.
Finally the business went under due to their actions.

Moral of the story, NCP franchises are not all they're cracked up to be.

Joe, I just saw something on a show named "5th Gear" which is British. They were doing a bit about how individual property owners/renters (I think) are now putting boots on cars at will which are parked outside their premises. They filmed this in London and showed some sign with very small print of about 3 paragraphs which is impossible to read as you're driving by or even parking...unless you stop, get out and read it before you park. These signs are apparently all over London and business people have turned into a parking police force of their own. I may have some details wrong but I think I'm close about whats happening there. Oh leave it out, I'd hardly call Tuesday and Thursday nights and the Saturday matinee a 'regular'.

Just an after thought here and it may well fall into the section of 'Rhetorical Questions', but does anyone think what happened, as described in the OP, would have happened if it was a 45 year old Thai guy in a 5 series BMW wearing a Hugo Boss outfit?

Bet they wouldn't have said jack sh**, too scared, but a farang. Even those "high class" girls feel comfortable mouthing off at us, probably because there's no-one else to let it out at.

IMO, whoever does it is off in an ego la-la land.

Seen both sections here do it and both are equally idle, maybe it's just who's an easier target.

To put it briefly, they wouldnt say a word.

The sort of person you describe is near the very top of the food chain in Thailand. Money-Face-Respect.

And if it had been a 45 year old Farang in a 5 series BMW and a Hugo Boss suit, the girls would have chased him into El Murphys instead of complaining about his parking!

I had to read this again. I thought at first that SJ was on stage three times per week.

I was going to get some make up tips.

So have the Blue Angels had people parking in there premises?

Wouldn't know

Perhaps you have to "double park" when it's busy .Hence the midweek and matinee visits .

To Clarify; The foriegner who was the innocent victim, parked his Honda Jazz nicely, not obstructing anyone, when all errupted he just calmly drove away.

The Thai had a large Pick Up Truck, he owns the massage accross from El Murphy's, he received the ticket.

The females were all shapes and sizes and all age's, approx 6 of them, screaming like banshie's on fire. Penny who runs the bar was the worst, she disappeared when the Police arrived. One of the women actually admitted to letting down the tyre of a farrang so he would have to stay the night.

What sort of place is the Limelight Bar, I come here because I like talking to Howard, not come here again.

Times might be tough here but ???????????????????
