Id say the most successful was old Cap'n Morgan. Successful pirate one day, governor of Jamaica the next. 5 Minutes later and hes got his own brand of grog!

thats proper history shipmatey...... good old Cap'n Morgan was a proper full on licensed pirate.....then he does a deal, after arranging for the previous person to leave the post, for the governorship of Jamaica back when that meant big bucks. Persuades a few mates to pack it in as well.

Applies piratical thinking to business and makes a mint.

Starts a grog business (ie applies British thinking to Sugar cane = Rum or molasses equation...yanks made molasses, we made booze).......and 200 or so years later his big grinning gurner is in all the bars y go in....and he has accompanied my drunkerdness a fair few times Davey Jones blessim.

Gaaaaarrrrrrrrrr..........

Eres to Cap'n Morgan!

Yaaaaarrrrrrr

I'd vote for Drake, authorized by HM to pillage and plunder off shore and on.

A seafood company had a tv commercial here in Canada years back that showed an old salt "Capt. Highliner" chatting dockside with a young boy.
The Captain asks, "Ever been to sea, Billy?"
The unofficial answer quickly became, "No, Captain. But I've been blown ashore!"
