Nice pool, nice restaurant & coffee shop, friendly staff. They also used to have a couple of suites for about 1600 baht. It's an old Vietnam War era R&R place and needs a lick of paint but clean enough and well located.
I'd agree with Jaime on this one.Stayed there twice this year.Rooms from 1000 baht upwards.
Some of the rooms have been refurbished in the last 12 months and are excellent value.
Nice pool, nice restaurant & coffee shop, friendly staff sums it up nicely.
Great location....at the end of the road is Nana BTS and some good restaurants on Soi 11 as well.

bircow wrote:The best deal at the moment (quality and location) in Sukhumvit is Dynasty Grande in Sukhumvit soi 6. I think they charge you about 2300 Bht/night, so if you want to pay that, google it. They have a website.
I'll second that, although the high season prices are now around 2,800 baht. Rooms are great and the pool/gym/restaurant are excellent. Owned by the Dynasty chain and IMHO a lot nicer than the Dynasty Inn on soi 4.

Easy access to the Marriott, which is located on soi 2. Walk around the corner to soi 4 - head up towards Sukhumvit Road and you'll see a square on the left hand side - walk through the square and you're on soi 2. It's about a ten minute walk from the Dynasty Grande to the Marriott.

Dynasty also has a new hotel on soi 4, located just past the entrance to soi 6. Not stayed there but had a look a couple of days ago and looks very nice - just opened last month. Think prices start at 2,000 baht for a standard room - kind of middle ground between the Inn and the Grande.

Budget options on soi 4 include the Swan Inn and the Nap Inn - both around 600-800 baht per room and have hot shower, air con and TV with full satellite channels.

Thanks

Hi Jim:

When in Bangkok, I use to go to VP Towers and get a room there :

http://www.vptower.com/

Room are clean, quiet, large, with air con, fridge, cable TV and include a private bathroom.

Price is 1000 THB a night

You are 5 minutes on a walk from the BTS (Victory Monument station)

Hope this will help.

Wow

I have stayed in most of these over the years but I,ll add a couple more .

Grand business inn soi 11 for around 1200

The Zenith soi 3

Rembrandt serviced apartments soi 20 .We have corporate rates here so I do not know rack rates .

Bourbon st apartments at washington square are ok as is the europark in soi 1 .Similar prices and standard as the federal which I used for many years .

I stayed at the Dynasty Grande once and found it very good value .Rooms were better than most hotels double the price IMO .

If the Rembrandt apts are not available I normally book through Golf of Siams booking agency .They give good rates .Probably even better if combined with golf packages although I have never asked .

We also have rented condos in the area for less than a month at 1000-1500 baht furnished with ubc and internet .Utility bills on top but not loaded .

Hope this helps

I stayed at the Swiss Hotel on Soi 11 a year or so back and it was about 1500-1800 a night, can't remember exactly, nice enough rooms. Reason I'll mention it is because you can park your car/pickup there if you have one.

Wasn't anything spectacular but the parking factor was helpful.

I agree with the comments posted so far on the Dynasty Inn Grande. It's the best value hotel I have stayed in in Bangkok. It's not dead cheap, but you get a very nice hotel for what you are paying.

Agree on Dynasty Inn GRANDE. Good value, quieter side-street to Sukhumvit (sort of), great terrace w an ok restaurant & café. They have rised their prices often during the past 2 years though, so might not be so good value any more.
Less 'saucy' than the Dynasty on soi 4. Close to all the action at Nana and Sukumvit and the BTS, but still in a "safe" street.

Thanks very much to everyone for your help. It's really nice to know that you can post a sensible question and get 2 pages of helpful answers.

We've booked the Dynasty Grande, I'll let you know how it was for us...

I stay at the Nana 1490 breakfest included. They have one of the largets beds in Thailand or at least it was the last time I stayed there.

Book early, they do fill up.

I've heard horror stories about the place but in 4 visits I've never had a problem.

If all the stories were true they wouldnt be filling up every night.

If you really didn't want to know the answer, why the hell did you ask me the question!!!

It seems like a long time ago, but I did promise to come back and report on this one.

We stayed in the Dynasty Grand the night before and the night after Swampy first shut. It is a decent enough hotel, well situated, friendly staff and cost about 2.5k per night. We would go back again. Thanks to everyone for your advice.

As part of our concoluted escpae from the country we also spent a night at the Amarin in Hat Yai. 320 baht for an aircon room, but I really really don't recommend it.

Too late for the OP but useful to add to the thread...

Try 'Omni Tower' down Soi 4. Nice condo complex with great facilities and pool. Call or speak to the old ladies in the CDS office downstairs. Not reception.

I did ask one time about the Happy Inn (At the junction of Soi 4 and Soi 6). 600 thb per night. Small rooms, clean, with TV and shower. Ok if you just want to sleep. Internet downstairs.
