Tourist arrivals plummet in Thailand amid credit crunch

I find it strange that Phuket and Hua Hin are down 18-20%, yet Pattaya with its obviously affluent clientele is only down 5%.

Can anybody riddle me that one?

The Russians are still arriving in mass on daily charter flights into U-Tapao. Their numbers are the same or greater than last year. Loy Kratong in the Pattaya area was like a Russian folk festival. They did seem to enjoy themselves. . They are also still buying condos in large numbers, some of which haven't even broken ground yet. Pete
