I think there will be a lot more paedophiles than you might think.

Think back 30 years before it was fashionable for Gays to come out of the closet. There were very few, and those that were known of were mainly considered perverts.

It's not fashionable for paedophiles to come out of the closet, so they're mainly doing their thing behind closed doors. Hopefully it will never become fashionable.

The fact remains, once a paedophile, always a paedophile - Zidane talks about a cure - without castration, it's unlikely that they will find a cure for sexual perversion.

Most people are normal, but it is my belief that perverts exist in similar numbers eg if 10% of the worlds population are gay, then another 10% will be paedophiles - we just don't know who they are.

Disgusting paedophiles.
Bring back the stocks and public humiliation before they are sent inside to become a "bitch" for some Testosterone and Steroid enhanced inmate. A totally inexcusable condition. It is really shocking that there are these people around. Perhaps as BB suggests it is reasonable to expect at least a sigma deviation in a normal population to have these tendencies. Maybe there is a DNA test to cull them out of this world ??
In Oz there is a sex offenders register and when they have served their time allowed out and are protected by Privacy provisions as to their residency which can be in close proximity to schools etc.

Charlesh - the sex offenders register and privacy on release laws also apply in England, where the offenders seem to have more human rights than the poor kids who are abused.
I can't go along with your 'culling' and DNA doctoring ideas - but do understand that this subject is one of the most emotive, particularly on this site, as Thai society seems to continue to feed the perverts demands. IMO Sarge is about right - cut the offending bits off. (I'm being polite. It's Christmas.) Drug treatment is common, and effective, providing it is consistent and the offenders comply. Problem is, that with the UKs 'care in the community' policy, time served or mentally ill offenders are completely free to walk at any time. Even worse, they can be, and are, placed in homes adjacent to schools.
I worked in such a residential home 2 years ago, where we had to watch out for certain residents who might gaze over the school fence. And even, believe it or not, watch for unusual behaviour towards the homes pet cats.
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.
