Both UK and US customs will simply destroy any citrus fruit/seeds if they find them. Sending such items through the mail will in most cases work though as they only check random packages. The UK banned the import (legal) of kaffir lime (fruit, leaves and seeds) a short while back and it appears the move was made to protect the local market as many nurseries can supply them now.
If someone ship such items to you and the package gets stopped, customs will destoy the goods and you'll get a note to let you know. However, I shipped back quite a few of the kaffir lime fruits and most made it through. The people I shipped to were wanting to plant the seeds and as citrus seeds do not last well, its best to send the whole fruits which survive the journey in perfect condition.
All othe fruits and or seeds can be shipped in compliance with the law by obtaining a phytosanitary certificate from the department of agriculture in Bangkok.
Hope this helps

Ho ho. Without wanting to veer too much off topic, it was my wife who was initially pulled at customs. When she called out for me, I was asked into the cubicle as well. The officer only searched the suitcase she had. The fruit was in the shoulder bag I was carrying.STEVE G wrote:I can imagine that you might struggle to act nonchalant with a pineapple hidden about your anatomy!

Thanks Baron I'll check that out. We do have a good Thai food shop not too far away. They get fruit and veg flown in which is in store every Wednesday, and mostly sold out in a couple of days!
For anyone in the area though its Tradewinds in Scunthorpe of all places. Worth a look.
