negative

Post by redzonerocker »

i've watched the report several times now & i'm struggling to see the problem here :?
it's a basic news report on a very tragic accident.
i can't see any sensationalism & of course it has a negative slant, an incident like this obviously would.

i don't think we should be to concerned about the negative affects of the report, it is quite insignificant when you look at the bigger picture & the tragic loss of so many young lives

my thoughts & sympathies are with the victims & their families of this tragic night
Remember, no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

And another

A fire broke out at a pub on Soi Cowboy early Friday. Nobody was injured.

Police said fire fighters spent about 15 minutes to put out the blaze after it broke out at the Raw Hyde Pub at 2:30 am.

Maybe the Thais ought to go the Italian route

The saddest thing about this tragedy is that nothing here will change. Nobody will learn anything from it. Nobody will be charged or go to jail.

Even though this affected "hi-so" Thais, the club owner(s) will not even be identified and the government inspectors, police, fire and other people will all deny any responsibility whatsoever while looking about for more tea money.

Other club owners and builders will just carry on as usual. The Santika owner will probably reopen somewhere else in six months having learned nothing except how to save money on shoddy construction.

I have been to DJ station in Bkk a few times over the past year. I also remember the old Hin Nam club. My first question upon entering these places was, "Where are the fire exits?" And I kept asking myself while there what would happen if fire did break out. But just like driving or taking the van to Bangkok, you risk your life ( and are conscious of that fact) and just pray that nothing does happen. . .all you can do really.

How does the new Hin Nam club stack up anyway? I haven't been in. ( It was built from scratch in one week so you have to wonder!)

There are no occupancy laws here evidently. . other than how many bodies can physically be jammed into a room or building. ( Our Motto: How much money can we make?) There is an interesting account on one of the Bangkok Post response forums from someone who apparently opened a large restaurant or some other business in Bangkok some years back, built it to Western safety standards ( sprinklers, emergency lighting, fireproof stairs etc etc) and described the inspectors who came to approve the necessary permits as only being interested in the "envelope". . they never toured the building and never checked any of the safety measures. She claims all they checked was one bathroom because they had to use it. That's it. TIT

Today's report:

"Police were waiting for Santika pub owner Wisuk Setsawat to show up for questioning. Mr Wisuk was hospitalised but police said his whereabouts were not immediately known. Police will call Chris Pongpithaya, the owner of the pub building, and Suriya Ritrabue, the pub manager for interrogation instead"

"Police said Santika was not insured"

"Some of the dead's relatives filed complaints on Friday. 'x' from Pattani said her younger brother who died in the Santika fire always carried his ID card and 10,000 baht in cash with him, but both were missing" ----- Always

"'x', who lost her husband 'x', said she had first seen the body of her husband wearing a gold necklace weighing five-baht and two gold-framed amulets, but the valuables later disappeared"

PS: I replaced names for 'x'
